158 <br /> <br />Consideration re: <br />Appropriation re - <br />$59,965 - Library <br />Board <br /> <br />Resolution re: <br />James Edward Adams <br /> <br />Consideration re: <br />Appropriation re - <br />$36,000 for paving <br />CHS Parking Lot <br /> <br />Resolution re: <br />Raffle Permit - <br />Beta Iota Chapter of <br />Delta Tau Delta <br />Fraternity <br /> <br /> Mr~ Chris Devan, Director of Jefferson-Madison Library <br />addressed the Council ands]stated that additional funds are <br />available to the Library for which no provision was made in <br />their annual budget and requested an appropriation for these <br />funds. He stated that their were $50,443 of federal aid <br />and $9,522 of state aid, but these funds can-not be spent until <br />an appropriation is made. The Council questioned Mr. Devan <br />as to what the funds would be used for and he stated that they <br />will be used as directed by the Board of Trustees of the <br />Regional Library in accordance with the rules of the State <br />Library. Mr. Devan was requested to furnish the Council a list <br />of what the funds would be used for. On motion by Mr. Gatewood, <br />seconded by Mr. Brunton the following resolution was offered and <br />carried over to the next meeting for consideration. <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br /> Charlottesville that $59,965 be and the same is hereby <br /> appropriated from the General Fund, in accordance with the <br /> foregoing request. <br /> <br /> Mr. Brunton stated that he seconded the appropriation on <br /> condition that the Council be furnished a list of expenditures <br /> <br />from these funds. <br /> On motion by Mr. Fife, seconded by Mr. Brunton, the following <br /> <br />resolution was unanimously adopted. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Mr. James Edward Adams served the City of <br />Charlottesville as a member of the Police Department for nearly <br />half a century; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Mr. Adams held nearly every rank in the Police <br />Department in forty-six years with the City, including <br />Assistant Chief and Chief of Police; and <br /> WHEREAS, Mr. Adams served eighteen years as Chief of <br />Police until his retirement in 1968, and was recongnized by the <br />citizens of Charlottesville and his fellow police officers for <br />his fairness in judgement and his devotion to duty; <br /> NOW BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED THAT the Council of the City <br /> of Charlottesville expresses its deepest sympathy to the family <br /> of Mr~..~. James Edward Adams following his death on September 14, 1976; <br /> BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Clerk of the Council <br /> be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Mary Wade Adams <br /> as token of the esteem in which her husband was held by this <br /> body, and to spread a copy of this resolution in the minutes of <br /> the Council meeting of September 20, 1976. <br /> Mr. Gatewood requested that the Council take what ever' action <br /> necessary to use the funds which will be returned by the School <br /> Board from the 1975-76 budget to pave the parking lot at <br /> Charlottesville High School. On motion by Mr. Gatewood, seconded <br /> by Mr. Brunton the following resolution was offered and <br /> carried over to the next meeting for consideration. <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br /> Charlottesville that $36,000 be and the same is hereby appropriated <br /> from the General Fund for paving the parking lot at <br /> Charlottesville High School. <br /> On motion by Mr. Barbour, seconded by Mr. Brunton the <br /> following resolution was unanimously adopted. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Beta Iota Chapter of Delta Tau Delta <br /> Fraternity has applied for a permit to conduct raffles in <br /> compliance wSth~-.Section 17-19 of the Code of the City of <br /> Charlottesville, 1976, as amended; and <br /> WHEREAS, it has been determined that the Beta Iota <br /> Chapter of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity meets the qualificatibns <br /> as outlined in Section 17-19; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the <br /> City of Charlottesville that a permit be granted to the Beta Iota <br /> <br /> <br />
