Regular meeting Approval of minutes Presentation re: Social Development Commission - Report on Child Abuse Staff Report - Easters Weekend - 1976 Appropriation re: $7500 - Airport ILS System 259. Chapter of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity to conduct raffles in accordance with all provisions of Section 17-19 of the Code of the City of Charlottesville for a period of one year from the date of this resolution; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the Council be directed to send a copy of this resolution to the Secretary, Beta Iota Chapter of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. Pres ident COI~CIL CHAMBER - MONDAY, OCTOBER 4, 1976 The Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: Mr. Barbour, Mr. Brunton, Mr. Fife, Mr. Gatewo°d and Mrs. O'Brien. Absent: None. The minutes of the meetings of August 31, September 15, September 16 and September 20, 1976 were approved as presented. Rev. William S. Smith, Chairman of the Social Development Commission addressed the Council and presented a report on Child Abuse and Neglect, prepared by the Community Development Department. He stated that the City Welfare Department had requested the Community DevelOpment staff to do a study on the feasibility of establishing a multi-discipline team to deal with child abuse and neglect in the community. Mr. Smith stated that the City staff did the study and presented the report to the Social Development Commission. The commission then appointed a task force of people with expertise in the area to review the recommendation. The major recorr,,~Lendation was that the local Welfare Department be responsible for creating a multi-discipline team to deal with child abuse and neglect in the community and recommended the appointment of Dr. Gerald DeWitt, Ms. Joan Kammire and Ms. Linda Craft as members of the team. Mr. William Mitchell addressed the Council and presented a staff report on Easters Weekend - 1976. The report contained recommendations for actions that should be taken by the City and University in regard to future Easters Weekend celebrations. Mr. Mitchell was thanked for a very excellent report. The report was received to be used to establish better rapport with the University. The resolution appropriating $7,500 for the Airport ILS System, which was offered at the meeting of the Council on September 20, 1976, was adopted by the following recorded vote. Ayes: Mr. Barbour, Mr. Brunton, Mr. Fife, Mr. Gatewood and Mrs. O'Brien. Noes: None.
