Ordinance <br /> <br />Request re: City <br />Treasurer for <br />Appropriation of <br />$8,475 for pre~ <br />registering auto <br /> <br /> Mr. Gatewood questioned increasing vehicle licenses by <br /> <br />50%' and was informed that this amount of revenue is included in <br />the present operating budget based on a 50% increase in the <br />license fees. <br /> <br /> An ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND AND REORDAIN <br />SECTIONS 2-57, 2-67, 3-2, 5-5, 5-13, 6-3, 6-5, AND 10-56 <br />THROUGH 10-59, AS SEVERALLY AMENDED, OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE <br />CITY CODE OF 1976, AND TO ADD TO SUCH CODE A SECTION 15-20.1 <br />IN ORDER TO INCREASE CITY MOTOR VEHICLE LICENSE FEES, TO <br />TRANSFER'THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR COLLECTION OF SUCH LICENSE <br />FEES AND CHARGES FROM THE DIRECTOR OF FINANCE TO THE CITY <br />TREASURER, AND TO REQUIRE THE PAYMENT OF PERSONAL PROPERTY <br />TAXES BEFORE ISSUANCE OF MOTOR VEHICLE, BUSINESS AND <br />PROFESSIONAL LICENSES," was offered by Mr. Fife, seconded by <br />Mr. Brunton and carried over to the next meeting for <br />consideration. <br /> <br /> The City Treasurer addressed the Council and presented <br /> <br />a proposal for pre-registering automobiles which would serve <br />as a notice that the decal is due and that the decal can be <br />purchased by mail. He stated this plan would also speed up <br />the purchase when sold at City Hall and help prevent long <br />lines at the last minute of the due date. He stated that he <br />believed by using the Division of Motor Vehicles list a more <br />vigorous enforcement program could be instituted, which would <br />result in a more complete registration of all ~.hicles in the <br />City. He stated that the estimated cost of implementing this <br />program would be $8,475 and requested an appropriation in this <br />amount. On motion by Mr. Gatewood, seconded by Mr. Barbour <br />the following resolution was offered and carried over to the <br />next meeting for consideration. <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville that $8,475 be and the same is hereby <br />appropriated from the General Fund for pre-registering <br />vehicle program. <br /> <br /> Mr. Harding was requested to make every effort to keep <br /> <br />the cost of this program down and was also requested that an <br />evaluation be made after the first year of the program. <br /> <br /> The Mayor requested that the Housing Board of Adjustment <br /> <br />and Appeals and the Inspections Department review the Housing <br /> <br />Code to determine if changes need to be made in the present code. <br /> <br /> The Mayor also announced a. neighborhood meeting for the 10th <br />and Page Street Area on January 24th at a place to be announced. <br /> <br /> On motion the meeting adjourned. <br /> <br />Clerk <br /> <br />P~es iden t <br /> <br /> <br />
