Delaying vote <br />on Fashion Mall <br />Ordinance <br /> <br />Ordinance re: <br />Closing, vacating <br />& discontinuing <br />Wood Street <br /> <br />Consideration re: <br />Ordinance - Speed <br />Limit on Preston <br />Avenue <br /> <br />Adjournmenn <br /> <br />2!7 <br /> <br />Ordinance re: Limiting An ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 24 OF <br />& restricting the <br />discharge of IndustrialTHE CODE OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE 1976 BY ADDING AN ARTICLE <br />Waste & Pollutants ' <br /> II, CONTAINING SECTION 24-12 THROUGH 24-25, REGULATING LIMITING <br /> <br /> AND RESTRICTING THE DISCHARGE OF INDUSTRIAL WASTE AND POLLUTANTS <br /> AND OTHER SUBSTANCES INTO THE S~%TARY SEWER SYSTEM," which was <br /> offered at ~h~ meeting of the Council on December 6, 1976, was <br /> adopted by the following recorded vote. Ayes: Mr. Barbour, Mr. <br /> Brunton, Mr. Fife Mr. Gatewood and Mrs. O'Brien. Noes: None. <br /> <br /> Mr. Gatewood stated than he feels that as soon a's the traffic <br /> information is available that the Council should move to a prompt <br /> decision on the matter of the Fashion Mall. He also stated that <br /> the Council should indicate an intention of taking a vote on Marcm <br /> 14th unless information is available earlier. Mr. Barbour stated <br /> he would be infavor of making a decision before the fourteenth if <br /> possible. Due to the delay in traffic report it will not be possible <br /> to reach a decision, at a regular meeting, before April 4th. <br /> <br /> An ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE CLOSING, VACATING A~ND <br /> DISCONTINUING WOOD STREET LYING BETWEEN GRADY AVENUE AND WE. ST <br /> STREET AND A 15 FOOT ALLEY RUNNING IN AN EASTERLY DIRECTION FROM <br /> <br /> WOOD STREET FOR APPROXIMATELY 111 FEET IN THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE," <br /> which was offered at the meeting of the Council on February 7, <br /> 1977, was adopted by the following recorded vote-. Ayes: Mr. <br /> Barbour, Mr. Brunton, Mr. Fife, Mr. Gatewood and Mrs. O'Brien. <br /> Noes: None. <br /> <br /> A communication was presented from the Director of Public Works <br /> stating that the speed limit on Preston Avenue was posted at <br /> twenty-five miles per hour when it was a two lane road, however <br /> since the completion of the four lane project twenty-five miles <br /> per hour no longer seems a reasonable limit. He recommended that <br /> the speed limit be set at thirty-five miles per hour, since 85% <br /> of the motorists are traveling in this speed range. An ordinance <br /> entitled "AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND AND REORDAIN SECTION 16-9 OF THE <br /> CODE OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, 1976, RELATING TO MINIMUM <br /> AND MAXIMUM SPEED LIMITS, ETC.," was offered by Mr. Barbour, <br /> seconded by Mr. Gatewood and carried over to the next meeting for <br /> consideration. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Ruth Bristol spoke against raising the speed limit stating <br /> that the speed should be set for the entire lenght of the street <br /> and the traffic lights ae~m to be set for 25 M.P.H. <br /> <br /> On motion the meeting adjourned. <br /> <br />Clerk <br /> <br />President <br /> <br />MINUTES OF MARCH 8, 1977 AFTER MINUTES OF MARCH 14, 1977 <br /> <br /> <br />
