2210' <br /> <br />Staff Report re: <br />Rugby Road Bicycle <br />Trail <br /> <br />Appropriation re: <br />Bicentennial Info. <br />Center - $74,869 <br /> <br />Appropriation re: <br />Bicentennial Office <br />$4,199 <br /> <br />Loan re: Charlottesville <br />Redevelopment & Housing <br />$25,000 <br /> <br />Consideration re: <br />Appropriation $59,317 <br />Girls' Attention Home <br /> <br />that the Convention Bureau be funded for an interium contract from <br />January 1, 1977 to June 30, 1977 which would allow the program to <br />continue at the same level of activities and allow time to discuss <br />and prepare Contract III to begin July 1. He stated that the <br />interium contract would only cover the continuing costs and could <br />be done for $6,000 for this six month period. He requested that <br />Contract III be negotiated for the period July 1, 1977 to June <br />30, 1978 and that City and County fund this contract with 25% <br />of the transient room tax, plus $5500 and $2500 from the County <br />making a total of $42,000 for operation of the Tourism and <br />Convention Bureau. A motion was offered by Mr. Gatewood, <br />seconded by Mr. Brunton that the interium contract be funded and <br />action on Contract III, be deferred until the City Budget is <br />approved subject to County cooperation. A substitute motion by <br />Mr. Fife, seconded by Mr. Barbour that action be postponed one <br />week so that the contract can be prepared, was unanimously adopted. <br /> <br /> The City Manager advised the Council that the staff has <br /> explored possible altemnative~.funding sources for the Rugby Road <br /> Bike Trail including State Highway Department 'Safety Division, <br /> State Highway Department Construction Division, Bureau of Outdoor <br /> Recreation, and University of Virginia and stated that up to this <br /> time he has been unable to secure any funds for this project. <br /> <br /> A motion by Mr. Fife, seconded by Mr. Barbour that a general policy <br /> be established whereby bike lanes are included where appropriate <br /> in all new streets constructed in the future was unanimously <br /> adopted. Mr. Bob Stripling was requested to contact the Bureau <br /> of Outdoor Recreation about funds for the Bike paths going along <br /> the sewer lines. <br /> <br /> The resolution appropriating $74,869 for Bicentennial <br /> Information Center, which was offered at the meeting of the Council <br /> on February 22, 1977, was adopted by the following recorded vote. <br /> Ayes: Mr. Barbour, Mr. Brunton, Mr. Fife, Mr. Gatewood and Mrs. <br /> O'Brien. Noes: None. <br /> <br /> The resolution appropriating $4,199 for operation of the <br /> Office of the Bicentennial which was offered at the meeting of <br /> the Council on February 22., 1977, was adopted by the following <br /> recorded vote. Ayes: Mr. Barbour, Mr. Brunton, Mr. Fife, Mr. <br /> Gatewood and Mrs. O'Brien. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Brunton, seconded by Mr. Gatewood a loan <br /> <br /> in the amount of $25,000 was authorized to the Charlottesville <br /> Redevelopment and Housing Authority. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Gatewood, seconded by Mr. Barbour the ~ <br /> following resolution was offered and carried over to the next <br /> meeting for consideration. <br /> <br /> <br />
