O'Brien (signed) <br /> President <br /> <br />Resolution re: <br />Voluntary Moratorium <br />on Annexation <br /> <br />The Council met in special session on this date with the following <br /> <br />members present: Mr. Brunton, Mr. Fife and Mr. Gatewood. Absent: <br /> <br />Mr. Barbour and Mrs. O'Brien. <br /> <br />On motion.by Mr. Gatewood, seconded by Mr. Brunton the following <br /> <br />resolution was unanimously adopted. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council on March 14, 1977 adopted a resolution <br />urging the Governor of Virginia to veto Senate Bill 735, which bill <br />would extend for a period of ten years the moratorium on the <br />initiation of annexation preceedings by cities in the Commonwealth; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Governor has expressed his reluctance to take <br />such action for fear that cities might thereupon immediately under- <br />take annexation proceedings before a legislative solution to the <br />annexation issues could be devised; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City <br />of Charlottesville that the Council hereby expresses its intent, <br />if the Governor were to veto Senate Bill 735, to refrain from the <br /> <br /> <br />
