Consideration re: <br />Ordinance - Annual <br />Tax Levy <br /> <br />Special Meeting <br /> <br /> Mr. Puryear representing the Charlottesville Police Association <br /> addressed the Council in opposition to the proposed 2~% across the <br /> board increase. He requested a 7~% across the board increase. <br /> <br /> Mr. Bob Stroh, Chairman of the Budget Committee of the Library <br /> requested that the funds for the Bookmobile not be cut since this <br /> is considered an extremely important service. Mrs. Lula Rodgers <br /> of Oakridge Gardens also requested that the Bookmobile service be <br /> continued. <br /> <br /> The following people addressed the Council in opposition to the <br /> prpposed 1% Meal Tax. Mr. Paul Holdren, Mrs. Mary Williams, Mr. <br /> Harvey Nichol, Mr. John Banks, Mr. Dean Jacobs, Mr. Dave Flynn, Mr. <br /> Dave Rutherford and Mr. John Tuck. <br /> <br />Mr. Ken Ackerman, Vivian Gordon, Diane Fortune and Patsy <br />Blanton spoke in support of the Monticello Community Action Agency. <br /> <br /> Mr. Von Smith requested that the budgets be reduced so no <br /> <br /> tax increase will be necessary. <br /> <br /> Mr. C. E. Anderson suggested consolidation of departments <br /> <br />and cutting the budgets. <br /> <br /> Mr. Curtis Morton, 873 Raymond Road objected to the proposed <br />construction of Raymond Road with only 24 feet of pavement. <br /> <br /> Dr. Jeanne Biggar representing Jefferson Area Board for Aging <br />explained the activities of the JABA. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Jill Rinehart spoke in opposition to the funding of <br />Chamber of Commerce. <br /> <br /> An ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE TO ESTABLISH THE ANNUAL <br /> <br />TAX LEVY ON VARIOUS CLASSES OF PROPERTY FOR THE PAYMENT OF INTEREST <br />AND RETIREMENT OF THE CITY DEBT, FOR THE SUPPORT OF THE CITY <br />GOVERNMENT AND CITY SCHOOLS, AND FOR OTHER PUBLIC PURPO~;ES," was <br />offered by Mr. Fife, seconded by Mr. Gatewood and carried over to <br />the next meeting for consideration. <br /> <br /> On motion the meeting adjourned. <br /> <br />P~esi, <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER - MONDAY, APRIL 11 <br /> <br />Pursuant to the following call: <br /> <br />Mr. Charles L.
