278 <br /> <br />Resolution re: <br />Bingo Permit - <br />Veterans of <br />Foreign Wars <br /> <br />Resolution re: <br />Bingo Permit: <br />City of <br />Charlottesville <br />Fire Department <br /> <br />Resolution re: <br />Co~unity Housing <br />Policy <br /> <br />Communication re:, <br />Mayor on Housing <br />Authority Charter <br />Change <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Barbour, seconded by,Mr. Fife the following <br />resolution was unanimously adopted. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Post No. 1827 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars has <br />duly applied for a permit to conduct bingo parties in compliance with <br />§17-19 of the Code of the City of Charlottesville, 1976, as amended; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it has been determinad that Post No. 1827 of the <br />Veterans of Foreign Wars meets the qualificationS as outlined in <br />§17-19; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City <br />of Charlottesville that a permit be granted to Post No. 1827 of <br />the Veterans of Foreign Wars to conduct bingo parties in <br />accordance with all the provisions of §17-19 of the Code of the <br />City of Charlottesville for a period of one year from the date of <br />this resolution; and <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville grants permission to Post No. 1827 of Veterans of <br />Foreign Wars to conduct turkey shoots on their property within <br />the City limits for a period of one year from the date of this <br />resolution; and <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the Council be <br />directed to send a copy of this resolution to Post No. 1827 of <br />the Veterans of Foreign Wars. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Fife, seconded by Mr. Brunton the following <br />resolution was unanimously adopted. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Fire Department of the City of Charlottesville <br />has duly applied for a permit to conduct bingo parties in compliance <br />with §17-19 of the C~de of the City of Charlottesville, 1976 as <br />amended; and ' <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it has been determined that the Fire Department <br />of the City of Charlottesville meens the qualifications as outlinad <br />in §17-19; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City <br />of Charlottesville that a permit he granted to the Fire Department <br />of the City of Charlottesville to conduct bingo parties in <br />accordance with all the provisions of ~17-19 of the Code of the <br />City of Charlottesville for a period of one year from the date of <br />this resolution; and <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the Council be <br />directed to send a copy of this resolution to the City Fire Chief. <br /> <br />On motion by Mr. Fife, seconded by Mr. Barbour the following <br /> <br />resolution was unanimously adopted. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes it to be the goal <br />of the Charlottesville community to provide an adequate quantity, <br />quality, and choice of safe housing to meet the varied housing <br />needs of all residents; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council endorses that goal; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, in the pursuit of that goal, BE IT <br />RESOLVED to be the sense of the Council of the City of Charlottes- <br />ville that the community should: <br /> <br />Encourage the private sector to meet those needs <br />where possible; <br /> <br />provide public assistance to meet such needs where <br />necessary; <br /> <br />pro~ect, preserve, and strengthen existing neighborhoods; <br /> <br />enforce minimum housing standards to protect the health, <br />safety, and welfare of residents; and <br /> <br />encourage the rehabilitation and conservation of the <br />existing housing stock. <br /> <br />A memo was presented ~y~the Mayor proposing that the Council <br /> <br />initiate a change in the City Charter to provide that the Council <br /> <br />will be the Housing Authority Board. She stated that this move <br /> <br />would merge the Housing Authority function with City government <br /> <br />and the Council would be the coordinating body and as such would be <br /> <br />able to provide the necessary leadership for housing and economic <br /> <br /> <br />
