404

Staff Report re:
Economic Development
Group Request for
Consultant

Resolution re: Cable
Television

since this report was presented to Council some of the
members of Council have toured City Hall to see first hand
the space being used by various departments. The City
Manager reinterated the reasons for the original request
for additional space and stated that the proposed plan
would place those departments together which should logically
be close to each other and to over come some deficiencies
in the Social Services Department. He stated that if
we don't acquire this space there will be no other space
available in the near future. Mr. Gatewood stated that
he was with the group who toured the facilities and did
find in some areas it was quite crowded and in other areas
found that there was space available, but not enough space
to put a large department together as requested by the
City Manager. He stated that there were many good reasons
for the proposal as stated and also disadvantages to doing
other than what has been recommended, but he would favor
some alternative method of putting the departments together
including the Housing Authority by doing some moving around
and coming up with' space to accomodate these functions. The
Mayor stated that after looking at the situation he feels
that some alternative must be made by making the necessary
adjustments and asked the staff to make a survey and make
necessary adjustments and move. Mr. Buck stated that he
agreed with Mr. Brunton and Mr-.-Gatewood and would not
favor any expansion in the parking garage, but would like
to request the staff to submit a report with plans on how
to move the Housing Authority into City Hall. Mrs..O'Brien
stated she felt with some creative moving around there
was room in City Hall for those functions which are being
talked about and some consolidation of secretarial areas
might be effected even the way some of these groups are
presently located. The C~ty Manager stated that he would
have a report on the staffs recommendation for moving the
Housing Authority into City Hall by the first meeting in
August.

The committee appointed to select a consultant for

the Vinegar Hill Project recommended retaining Zuchelli,
Hunter and Associates to study the feasibility of constructing
a hotel/conference center complex on Vinegar Hill. On
motion by Mr. Buck, seconded by Mr. Gatewood the foregoing
recommendation was unanimously adopted.

On motion by Mr. Gatewood, seconded by Mr. Buck, the
following resolution and prefatory statement was adopted
by the following recorded vote. Ayes: Mr. Brunton, Mr.

Buck, Mr. Gatewood and Mrs. O'Brien. Noes: None. Abstained:
Mr. Albro.
