Executive Session <br /> <br />Pace wouldbe requested to appear in Richmond when this <br /> <br />bill is considered in committee. <br /> <br /> A motion by Mr. Gatewood, seconded by Mrs. O'Brien that <br />Council meet in executive session to'discuss matters exempted <br />by Sections 2.1-344(a)(1) and 2.1~344(a)(2) of Virginia <br />Freedom of Information Act, was adopted by t~e following <br />recorded vote. Ayes: Mr. Albro, Mr. Brunton, Mr. Buck, <br /> <br />Mr. Gatewood and Mrs. O'Brien. Noes: None. <br />On motion the meeting adjourned. <br /> <br />Regular~Me,eting <br /> <br />Approval of minutes <br /> <br />Matters by the public <br /> <br />Presentation: Study <br />of the needs of Families <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER - TUESDAY, JANUARY 16, 1979 <br /> <br /> The Council met in regular session on this date with the <br />following~members'present: Mr. Albro, Mr. Brunton, Mr. <br />Buck, Mr. Gatewood and Mrs. O'Brien. Absent: None. <br /> <br /> The minutes of the meeting of January 2, 1979 were <br />approved as presented. <br /> <br /> Ms. Jean Crenshaw representing the Soroptomist Club <br />addressed the Council and presented a resolution supporting <br />the adoption of a Comprehensive Therapeutic Recreation <br />Program. <br /> <br /> Mr. David Little, Chairman of the Social Development <br />Commission, Rev. James King, Dr. David Waters and MrS. <br />Gayle Schulman presented and discussed a report entitled <br />"STUDY OF THE NEEDS OF FAMILIES" as prepared by the task <br />force appointed for this purpose. The report contains the <br />following recommendations: 1. Convene a series of meetings <br />to coordinate efforts at prevention of family problems; <br />2. Develop creative ways to give public recognition to <br />homemaking, parenting and to family care as a support <br />system; 3. Develop and implement a course of study for each <br />7th grade student in the Charlottesville public schools <br />that will foster in those students an awareness of the <br />responsibilities and limitations of parenthood; 4. Through <br />the ARea Manpower Council examine the problems of family <br />income and employment in a comprehensive manner and <br />recommend in regulations and employment practives that <br />enable families to be financially self-sufficient; 5. <br />Develop more options for employment practices particularly <br />as they relate to families; 6. Assure that budgeting <br />services are coordinated and that funds are available to <br />continue these programs; 7. Start a referral service for <br />all residents who want to share housing; 8. Seek funds <br /> <br /> <br />
