VAN YAHRES~ MR. DAVIS AND MR. <br /> <br />L, L. SCRIBNER AS A COMMITTEE TO STUDY THE ADVISABILITY OF INCREASING THE NUMBER <br /> <br />OF COUNCIL MEMBERS. <br /> <br />THE FOLLOWING REPORT WAS PRESENTED: <br /> <br />SEPTEMBER 16~ t968 <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />CHARLOTTESVlLLE~ VIRGINIA <br /> <br />GENTLEMEN: <br /> <br /> THE COMMITTEE, APPOINTED BY THE FORMER MAYOR, TO STUDY THE <br />ADVISABILITY OF ESTABLISHING A DATA PROCESSING CENTER FOR TltE <br />CITY REPORTS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> WE CONTACTED SEVERAL CITIES IN VIRGINIA, WHO ARE PRESENTLY <br />USING DATA PROCESSING EQUIPMENT~ FOR EXPERIENCE IN THEIR <br />OPERATIONS. <br /> <br /> WE PREPARED MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS AND REQUESTED BIDS FOR <br />EQUIPMENT FOR OUR PROPOSED CENTER. <br /> <br /> AFTER REVIEW OF THESE PROPOSALS WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF <br />.THE COMPANIES7 IT WAS DETERMINED THAT IBM WAS THE LOWEST AND <br /> BEST BID. THEREFORE~ THE COMMITTEE RECOMMENDS THAT A DATA <br /> PROCESSING CENTER BE ESTABLISHED AND AN ORDER PLACED FOR THE <br /> IBM 360 MODEL 20 SYSTEM AS PROPOSED. THE COMMITTEE ALSO RE- <br /> COMMENDS THAT THE DIRECTOR OF FINANCE BE AUTHORIZED TO EMPLOY <br /> A PROGRAMMER - MANAGER FOR THIS DEPARTMENT, <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARING SET <br />RE: AMBULANCES <br />SERVICES <br /> <br />WELFARE REPORT <br />PRESENTED <br /> <br />EXECUTIVE SESSION <br /> <br /> RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED~ <br /> <br /> G. VAN YAHRES~ THE FOREGOING REPORT WAS UNANIMOUS- <br />LY ADOPTED. <br /> <br />THE COMMITTEE APPOINTED TO INVESTIGATE THE POSSIBLE SOURCES OF AMBULANCE SERVICES <br />IN THE CiTY RECOMMENDS THAT A PUBLIC HEARING BE HELD ON OCTOBER 7~ 1968 TO DETERMINE <br />WHETHER IT ~S NECESSARY TO GRANT A FRANCHISE OR PERMIT TO AMBULANCE OPERATORS IN <br /> <br />ORDER TO ASSURE THE PROVISION OF ADEQUATE AND CONTINUINm AMBULANCE SERVICES IN THE <br />CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE AND WHETHER THE EXERCISE OF OTHER POWERS GRANTED THE CITY <br />PURSUANT TO SECTION 32-310.8 OF THE VIRGINIA CODE WOULD BE APPROPRIATE.
