VAN YAHRES, SECONDED BY MR. RINEHART~ THE FOLLOWING <br />RESOLUTION WAS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED: <br /> <br /> WHEREAS THE COUNCIL HAS BEEN NOTIFIED BY THE FUNERAL DIRECTORS WITH N <br /> <br />THE CITY THAT THEY INTEND TO DISCONTINUE THE AMBULANCE SERVICE FOR HIRE WHICH THEY <br />HAVE BEEN PROVlD[NG~ AND~ <br /> <br /> WHEREAS THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTE.SV1LLE~ AFTER NOTICE OF PUBLIC <br /> HEARING~ PURSUANT TO SECTION 32-310.8 OF THE CODE OF VIRGINIA~ <br /> <br />OF THE OPINION THAT THE EXERCISE OF CERTAIN POWERS ENUMERATED iN THE FOREGOING <br />SECTION IS AS A MATTER OF FACT NECESSARY TO ASSURE THE PROVISION OF ADEQUATE AND <br />CONTINUING AMBULANCE SERVICES AND NECESSARY TO PRESERVEj PROTECT AND PROMOTE THE <br />PUBLIC HEALTH~ SAFETY AND GENERAL WELFARE OF THE C~TY, <br /> <br /> NOW~ THEREFORE~ BE iT RESOLVED THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTES- <br />VILLE HEREBY ADOPTS BY REFERENCE THE POWERS SET FORTH N SECTION 32-310.8 OF THE CODE <br />OF VIRGINIA, 1950~ AS AMENDED. <br /> <br /> ON MOTION BY MR. VAN YAHRES THE FUNERAL DIRECTORS WERE <br /> REQUESTED TO CONTINUE FURNISHING AMBULANCE SERVICE UNTIL AN OPERATOR IS SECURED OR <br /> UNTIL JANUARY 1~ 1969~WHICHEVER IS SOONER. <br /> <br /> A COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM THE V. F. W, REQUESTING PERMISSION TO HOLD <br /> SHOOTING MATCHES ON SATURDAY AFTERNOONS IN ADDITION TO THE FRIDAY MATCHES. ON <br /> <br /> MOTION BY MR. VAN YAHRES, SECONDED BY MR, WRIGHT., THE FOREGOING REQUEST WAS APPROVED. <br /> <br /> A COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM MR, S. W. HEISCHMAN REQUESTING UTILITIES <br /> <br /> FOR 300 APARTMENT UNITS AT UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS AND 300 AT FARMINGTON GARDENS, AND <br /> ENCLOSING A CHECK IN THE AMOUNT OF 936,356.44 TO COVER THE COST OF ENLARGING THE <br /> EXISTING LINES. THE CiTY MANAGER RECOMMENDED THAT UTILITIES BE GRANTED UNDER THE <br /> USUAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR COUNTY UTILITIES, ON MOTION BY MR. RINEHART, <br /> <br /> SECONDED BY MR. DAVlS~ THE FOREGOING RECOMME'NDATION WAS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED. (SEE <br /> COMMUNICATION ON PAGE <br /> A COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM THE STATE WATER CONTROL BOARD ADVISING <br /> <br /> THAT THE CITY'S APPLICATION FOR A CONSTRUCTION GRANT FOR SEWERAGE FACILITIES WAS NOT <br /> APPROVED. THE CITY MANAGER ADVISED THE COUNCIL THA~ THIS APPLICATION WAS FOR FUNDS <br /> FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A SEWER LiNE ALONG MOORES CREEK AT THE SOUTHERN EDGE OF <br /> TOWN~ AND THAT CONSTRUCTION OF THE LINE IS ESSENTIAL FOR THE FUTURE GROWTH OF THE <br /> <br />COMMUNITY. <br /> <br />HE STATED HE WAS NOT PREPARED TO MAKE A RECOMMENDATION AT THIS TiME~ BUT <br /> <br /> <br />
