COMM. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION RE: <br />A;R LINE SERVICE <br /> <br />COULD PROVIDE THE OFFICE SPACE~ BUT THE APPOINTMENT OF ASSISTANT REGISTRARS IS THE <br />RESPONSIBILITY OF THE ELECTORAL BOARD. THE HAYOR APPOINTED HRo VAN YAHRES AND HR. <br />WRIGHT AS A COMMITTEE TO INVESTIGATE THIS MATTER AND REPORT TO COUNCil. <br /> <br /> A COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM HR. WALTER G. VERLtNG, JR. REQUESTING A REFUND <br /> <br />OF A PORTION OF HIS RETAIL MERCHANTS LICENSE SINCE HIS PROPERTY WAS PURCHASED BY THE <br />HOUSING AUTHORITY. ON MOTION BY HR. WRIGHT, SECONDED BY HR. RINEHART, THE FOLLOWING <br />RESOLUTION WAS ADOPTED BY THE FOLLOWING RECORDED VOTE: AYES: HR. RINEHART, HR. VAN <br />YAHRES, HR. Vo~T AND HR. WRIGHT: NOES: NONE. ~ <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CiTY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE <br /> <br /> THAT ~426.66 BE AND THE SAME IS HEREBY APPROPRIATED FOR REFUND OF <br /> <br /> MERCHANTS LICENSE TO WALTER G. VERLING, JR, <br /> <br /> A REQUEST TO REZONE THE PROPERTY KNOWN AS FRYS SPRINGS BEACH CLUB WAS REFERRED TO <br />THE PLANNING COMMISSION FOR RECOMMENDATION. <br /> <br /> ON MOTION BY HR. RINEHART, SECONDED BY HR. WRIGHT, THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION WAS <br />UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED: <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, OFFICIALS AND REPRESENTATIVES OF NUMEROUS CITIES~ TOWNS, AND COUNTIES <br />LOCATED IN CENTRAL AND WESTERN VIRGINIA HAVE MET AND DISCUSSED AT LENGTH THE SERIOUS <br />IMPACT, ECONOMIC AND OTHERWISE, WHICH THE RECENT CESSATION OF AIR CARRIER SERVICE BY <br />PIEDMONT AVIATION, )NC.,.HAS HAD AND IS CONTINUING TO HAVE ON ALL COMMUNITIES FORMERLY <br />SERVED BY PIEDMONT, AND <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, COMMUNITIES AFFECTED BY THE AIRLINE SERVICE DISRUPTION BELIEVE, AS <br />SET FORTH IN A RESOLUTION ADOPTED AUGUST 5, 1969, IN THE CITY OF ROANOKE, THAT THE <br />PUBLIC CONVENIENCE AND NECESSITY DEMAND THAT AIR CARRIER SERVICE AUTHORIZED TO BE <br />PROVIDED BY PIEDMONT AVIATION, INC., BE RESUMED FORTHWITH, AND <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, THE COUNCIL OF'THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, WITHOUT TAKING A POSITION <br /> FOR OR AGAINST EITHER SIDE IN THE LABOR DISPUTE GIVING RISE TO DISRUPTION OF PIEDMONT'S <br /> AIR CARRIER SERVICE, IS IN ACCORD WITH THE AFORESAID EXPRESSED DESIRE TO HAVE REGULAR, <br /> NORMAL SCHEDULED AIRLINE SERVICE RESTORED AS A MATTER OF PUBLIC CONVENIENCE AND NECESSITY <br /> TO THE CHARLOTTESVILLE-ALBEMARLE COMMUNITY AND ALL OTHER POINTS WHICH PIEDMONT AIRLINES <br /> IS AUTHORIZED AND OBLIGATED TO SERVE, <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THIS' COUNCIL AS FOLLOWS; <br /> <br /> 1. THAT PIEDMONT AVIATION, INC. AND THE AIRLINE PILOTS ASSOCIATION <br /> <br /> ARE HEREBY REQUESTED TO RESUME FULL SERVICE IMMEDIATELY TO EACH AND EVERY POINT <br /> <br /> SERVED IMMEDIATELY PRIOR TO JULY 2], 1969. <br /> <br /> 2. THAT THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE IS WILLING TO CONSIDER JOINING WITH <br /> <br /> THE CITY OF ROANOKE AND OTHER COMMUNITIES IN EMPLOYING THE FIRM OF HAZLEGROVE, CARR, <br /> DICKINSON, SMITH AND REA, ATTORNEYS AT LAW, AS SPECIAL LEGAL COUNSEL'I.N ANY LITIGATION <br /> INSTITUTED IN ORDER TO BRING ABOUT A RESUMPTION OR REPLACEMENT OF NORMAL AIR CARRIER <br /> SERVICE TO THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE AND ALBEMARLE COUNTY AND OTHER COMMUNrTIES <br /> SIMILARLY AFFECTED. THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE DOES NOT NOW COMMIT <br /> ITSELF TO THE EXPENDITURE OF ANY MONEY, BUT INSTEAD, RESERVES THE RIGHT TO' MAKE SUCH <br /> FINAL JUDGEMENT WHEN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE TO REFLECT THE NUMBER OF OTHER <br /> COMMUNITIES PARTICIPATING FINANCIALLY AND THE APPROXIMATE TOTAL SUM OF MONEY THAT THE <br /> CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE MIGHT BE OBLIGATED TO PAY. <br /> <br /> THE FOLLOWING REPORT OF THE STREet COMMITTEE WAS PRESENTED: <br /> JULY 31, 1969 <br /> <br /> HEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL <br /> CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA <br /> <br /> THE STREET COMMITTEE RECOMMENDS: <br /> <br /> <br />
