Ayes: Mr. Caravati, Mr. Cox, Mr. Lynch, Ms. <br />Richards, Mr. Schilling. Noes: None. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS <br />, the City of Charlottesville is located in an area of physical <br />beauty and abundant natural resources; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS <br /> , the City has been nationally recognized as a healthy place to <br />live and work and an exceptional place to raise a family; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS <br /> , this Council recognizes that a healthy and sustainable <br />environment is essential for the quality of life that we cherish in Charlottesville, <br />and is committed to making the City a world class model of environmental <br />performance and stewardship; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS <br /> , it is the desire of this Council to formally adopt a policy <br />which reflects the City’s commitment to protecting and preserving our natural <br />environment for the health, benefit and well - being of all City residents as well as <br />future generations. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED <br /> by the Council for the City of <br />Cha rlottesville that the City hereby adopts an Environmental Sustainability Policy, <br />a copy of which is attached hereto and made a part of this Resolution. The City <br />Manager is directed to disseminate the Policy to all appropriate City departments <br />and employee s, and to periodically review the Policy and recommend updates and <br />revisions as may be necessary. <br /> <br />REPORT <br />: JEFFERSON SCHOOL TASK FORCE <br /> <br /> Mr. O'Connell said that the Jefferson School Task Force was created by Council in <br />April of 2002, and a Chair and Vic e Chair (Lelia Brown and Mary Reese) have just been <br />selected. Mr. O'Connell introduced Mary Means, facilitator for the Task Force. <br /> <br /> Ms. Mary Means, facilitator for the Task Force, explained that the Task Force will <br />be reviewing a menu of potential uses f or the Jefferson School building. <br /> <br /> Ms. Lelia Brown, Chair of the Task Force, said her intent is to represent the Task <br />Force as Chair, not her own agenda. <br /> <br /> Ms. Means said that a common thread that has emerged is that the building has <br />always had an educati onal component and that should continue, but noted that does not <br />necessarily mean a school, but could be something like a library. <br /> <br /> Mr. Caravati asked if it will still be possible for the Task Force to complete its work <br />within a year, and Ms. Means said y es. <br /> <br /> Mr. Caravati said he would appreciate it if the Task Force minutes would include <br />names of people who speak, both Task Force members and the public. <br /> <br />
