Ayes: Mr. <br />Caravati, Mr. Cox, Mr. Lynch, Ms. Richards, Mr. Schilling. Noes: None. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br /> There were no matters by the public. <br /> <br />OTHER BUSINESS <br /> <br />APPROPRIATION <br />: $6,00 0 - Hillsdale Drive Extension <br /> <br /> Mr. O'Connell asked that Council approve an appropriation of $6,000 for the <br />Hillsdale Extension so that the project can be forward. <br /> <br /> Mr. Tolbert said that Council actually needs to appropriate the City's match of <br />$6,000 as well as the $300,000 from VDOT. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Caravati, seconded by Mr. Lynch, the appropriation of <br />$306,000 for the Hillsdale Drive Extension was offered and carried over to a special <br />th <br />meeting on August 12 . <br /> <br /> Mr. Lynch gave an update on the Hillsdal e Drive extension. He said feedback <br />from the first public meeting has been reviewed, another public hearing is scheduled in <br />late September, and the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission will review the <br />safety recommendations. <br /> <br /> Ms. Richards recomm ended that outreach be made to senior citizens regarding the <br />safety issues. <br /> <br /> Mr. Cox announced that the groundbreaking for the Court Square project will be <br />held on Wednesday. <br /> <br /> Mr. Cox asked that staff provide information for Council on the Berkshire Roa d <br />drainage problem. <br /> <br /> Mr. O'Connell said that a private developer put in a pipe that has since collapsed. <br /> <br /> Mr. Tolbert said this has been a problem for years. He said the development was <br />located in Albemarle County when it was built, and five or six pro perties are current <br />affected. He said the estimate to correct the problem is between $400,000 and $600,000. <br />He said this money is not budgeted. He said projects similar to this have been financed <br />with the private property owner providing a 25% match. <br /> <br /> Mr. O'Connell said that storm water management that is coming could pay for <br />these types of improvements. <br /> <br /> Mr. Schilling said property owners should have some assurance that this type of <br />situation should not happen in the City. <br /> <br /> Mr. Cox said he thinks we have the ability to come up with a creative solution. <br /> <br /> Mr. Caravati said there is also an issue of equity throughout the City with <br />drainage problems. <br /> <br /> <br />
