NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY COUNCIL WILL BE HELD ON Monday, October 6, 2003 AT 6:00 p.m. IN THE Second Floor Conference Room. THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: Closed session as provided by Section 2.2 - 3712 of the Virginia Code BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox SECOND FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM - October 6, 2003 Council met in special session on this date with the following members present: Mr. Caravati, Mr. Cox, Ms. Richards, Mr. Schilling. Absent: M r. Lynch. On motion by Mr. Caravati, seconded by Mr. Schilling, Council voted (Ayes: Mr. Caravati, Mr. Cox, Mr. Schilling. Noes: None. Absent for the vote: Ms. Richards. Absent: Mr. Lynch) to meet in closed session for the purpose of discussion, c onsideration or interviews of prospective candidates for employment, assignment, appointment, promotion, performance, demotion, salaries, disciplining or resignation of specific public officers, appointees or employees; and appointing members to various Ci ty boards or agencies, as authorized by Section 2.2 - 3411(A)(1) of the Virginia Code; and for the purpose of consultation with legal counsel and briefings by staff members or consultants pertaining to actual or probable litigation, where such consultation o r briefing in open meeting would adversely affect the negotiating or litigating position of the City, or consultation with legal counsel employed or retained by a public body regarding specific legal matters requiring the provision of legal advice by such counsel, as authorized by Section 2.2 - 3711(A)(7) of the Virginia Code. COUNCIL CHAMBER - October 6, 2003 Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: Mr. Caravati, Mr. Cox, Ms. Richards, Mr. Schilling. Absent: Mr . Lynch. AWARDS/RECOGNITIONS : POLICE DEPARTMENT; DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH PROCLAMATION Police Chief Tim Longo explained that the Police Department has been focusing on ways to make the Department a better place to work for police officers and has begun a recognition program which recognizes courageous acts and those above and beyond the call of duty. He introduced recipients of awards recently awarded. Mr. Cox presented the Domestic Violence Awareness Month proclamation. PUBLIC Ms. Judy Walker, 1629 Hardwood Avenue, Director of the Ashlawn Opera Festival, presented pictures of KidsFest, an interactive session for area youth sponsored by the Festival, and applauded the City's support of the arts. Ms. Walker recognized Joyce Murray, a teac her at Clark Elementary School, and Johnny Ellen, City Recreation Manager, for their support of the Festival. Ms. Julia Jones, 1938 Lewis Mountain Road, thanked Council for their support of the Shelter for Help in Emergency and for issuing the Domestic V iolence Awareness Month Proclamation. Ms. Jones said that seven people have lost their lives due to domestic violence in the community this year. Ms. Jones invited the public to participate in Domestic Violence Awareness Month activities.
