2
Ms. Artie Dimberg, Assistant Superintendent of Sc hools, speaking about "No
Child Left Behind," said that originally three City schools were placed on a watch list as
not meeting Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), but since that time Johnson School has
been removed from the list because the way the informati on is analyzed has been
adjusted. Ms. Dimberg said that the Schools were just notified that Jackson - Via School
has also been removed from the list. She said Clark School remains on the list, but the
Schools have also asked that the information also be ad justed and she is optimistic that
Clark will be removed from the watch list. She said, however, that if it is not removed
the Schools are prepared to move forward with notification about choice if necessary.
Ms. Dimberg noted that the Title I fund alloca tion stays with the affected school the first
year after choice is required.

Mr. Cox asked if the School Board has discussed sending master teachers to Clark
School.

Ms. Dimberg said the School Board could have that discussion, but said they are
always looking to have the very best at Clark when there is an opening.

Ms. Richards expressed concern about what parents at other schools would think
about moving master teachers to Clark.

Mr. Lynch said if the State passes a budget the Schools could get ex tra funds, and
said if that is the case the Schools may want to divert additional funds to Clark.

Ms. Bowen said she does not think putting more money into Clark is the solution.
She said it is an issue of parenting as well as good teaching.

Ms. Richa rds said having a good pre - school program is also important.

Ms. Dimberg said the Schools have an instructional master plan that includes
intervention and that plan will be in place in the coming year. She said major strides
have been made instructional ly in the last two years.

Ms. Bowen said that the deadline for receipt of applications for the
th
Superintendent position was April 8 and the School Board will meet with the
th
consultants on April 21. Interviews are expected to begin on April 24 . She sa id the
Board still needs to decide on a public process. She said the Board hopes to make a
decision no later than the second week in May.

The meeting was adjourned.

______________________________ ____________________________
President Clerk
