5 <br /> Mr. Cox read the names of the School Board applicants: Louis M. Bograd, J ulie <br />L. Gronlund, Allyn Gutauskas, Kenneth Wayne Jackson, Sue Lewis, Edmund Michie, <br />Charles F. Morrill, Munier Ahmad Nazeer, and Leah Wilson Puryear. <br /> <br /> The public hearing was opened. <br /> <br />th <br /> Mr. Eric Johnson, 407 5 Street, S.W., supported Leah Puryear and said he <br />admires her for her commitment to high educational standards. He said she shows <br />parents how to become active. <br /> <br /> Mr. Peter McIntosh, 624 Davis Avenue, supported Ned Michie. He said he works <br />with him in a law firm and served on the Jefferson School Tas k Force with him. He said <br />he is a good listener, is excellent in a group, and moves towards consensus. <br /> <br /> Ms. Rebecca Snider, 3266 Horseshoe Bend Road, supported Allyn Gutauskas <br />because she is knowledgeable and forward thinking about education. She said s he has <br />the perspective of both a teacher and administrator. She said she also supports English as <br />a Second Language and Adult Education. <br /> <br /> Ms. Janet H. Legro, 910 Old Farm Road, supported reappointment of Julie <br />Gronlund. She said she respects and admires her and her positions on the School Board. <br />She said she is active in the lives of children and families, deeply concerned for the <br />success of all children, is good at communication, and her reappointment will provide <br />experience to the Board. <br /> <br /> Mr. Michael Gallahue, 1828 Yorktown Drive, supported Julie Gronlund and Ned <br />Michie. He said both of them have an in - depth understanding of the school system and a <br />drive to improve the system. He said Ms. Gronlund can work with the School Board and <br />parents. He said Mr. Michie has served on the PTO and PTO Council, Jefferson School <br />Task Force, and Piedmont Housing Alliance Board. <br /> <br /> Ms. Tina Rees, 964 Locust Avenue, said that Ned Michie grew up in the City <br />school system, advocates for the gifted, average and those who need remediation. She <br />said he understands the challenges of low income families. <br /> <br /> Ms. Elizabeth Wittner, 118 Buckingham Road, supported Munier Nazeer. She <br />said he is a scientist, an academic scholar, and a defender of the rights of minority <br />students. She said he has a strong worth ethic, is organized, and has a strong sense of <br />duty. <br /> <br /> Mr. Raymond Mason, 937 Charlton Avenue, representing a group from Pilgrim <br />Baptist Church, supported Charles Morrill. He said he suits the community values of <br />Charlottes ville, is honest, creative and sincere. <br /> <br /> Mr. Michael Crafaik, 1221 Greenway Avenue, supported Munier Nazeer. He said <br />he is an intelligent and caring person, and he respects his opinion. He said he is <br />energetic and hard working. <br /> <br /> Mr. Stu Armstrong, Pi edmont Housing Alliance, supported Ned Michie. He said <br />from a preparedness standpoint he is the best of all the candidates. He said he is prepared <br />to take on challenges, is well prepared, and listens. <br /> <br /> Ms. Linda Seaman, 2010 Greenbrier Drive, said that the schools are facing <br />challenges such as disparity in success rates, retirement of teachers, and technology. She <br />said Allyn Gutauskas will provide leadership in student outcomes, is a volunteer for <br />CASBA, and will work for workforce development. She sai d Ned Michie is a valuable <br />community leader, a good listener, President of the Greenbrier Neighborhood <br />Association, and understands the need for technology. <br /> <br /> Ms. Rebecca Barnes, 1607 Greenleaf Lane, supported Charles Morrill as a <br />thoughtful and articulate person. She said he will support fair education for all children <br />in our system. She said Mr. Morrill tutors at Buford School. <br />
