AUTHORIZED TO <br />ENTER INTO AGREEMENT <br />RE: DoG LAWs <br /> <br />STREET COMMITTEE REPORT <br />RE= EXTENSION CLEVELAND <br />AVE. <br /> <br />STREET COMMITTEE REPORT <br />RE= SIDEWALK - 8TH STREET <br /> <br />A COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF THE LIBRARY BOA'RD <br /> <br />TO THE ALBEMARLE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OUTLINING PROPOSED BOOKMOBILE SERVICE <br /> <br />TO FLUVANNA COUNTY WHICH IS BEING CONSIDERED BY A GROUP OF PRIVATE CITIZENS. THIS <br /> <br />MATTER WAS REFERRED TO THE LIBRARY COMMITTEE AND CITY ATTORNEY FOR RECOMMENDATION. <br /> <br />ON NOTION BY MR. LEE, SECONDED BY HR. MOUNT~ THE CITY HANAGER WAS AUTHORIZED <br /> <br />TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE COMMISSION OF GAME AND ~NLAND FISHERIES WHEREBY <br /> OF <br /> STATE <br /> WOULD BE RELIEVED/ENFORCING THE DOG LAWS WITHIN THE CITY, AND THE CITY <br />THE <br /> <br />WOULD RETAIN ALL DOG LICENSE REVENUE. <br /> <br />THE FOLLOWING REPORT OF THE STREET COMMITTEE WAS PRESENTED= <br /> <br />NOVEMBER 13, 1962 <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, <br />CHARLOTTESVILLE~ VIRGINIA <br /> <br />GENTLEMEN: <br /> <br /> MAYOR HAGGERTY REFERRED TO THE STREET COMMITTEE A REQUEST <br />FROM THE CHERRY AVENUE CHRISTIAN CHURCH FOR AN EXTENSION TO <br />CLEVELAND AVENUE WHICH WOULD PROVIDE AN ADDITIONAL ENTRANCE <br />TO THEIR PARKING LOT. <br /> <br /> SOUTH OF THE INTERSECTION OF CHERRY AVENUE, CLEVELAND <br />AVENUE IS A DEDICATED BUT UNCONSTRUCTED STREET. BEYOND THE <br />REQUIREMENTS OF THE CHURCH THERE APPEARS TO BE NO NEED FOR <br />THIS EXTENSION IN THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE AND GROUND CONDITIONS <br />ARE SUCH THAT CONSTRUCTION BEYOND THE FIRST FEW HUNDRED FEET <br />WOULD BE VERY EXPENSIVE AND PERHAPS COMPLETELY IMPRACTICAL. <br /> <br /> IT IS THE RECOMMENDATION OF YOUR STREET COMMITTEE THAT <br />THE CHERRY AVENUE CHRISTIAN CHURCH BE ADVISED THAT THEY HAVE <br />THE RIGHT TO ENTER UPON THIS RIGHT-OF-WAY AND DO SUCH GRADING <br />AND SURFACING AS MAY BE NECESSARY TO PROVIDE ACCESS TO THEIR <br />PARKING LOT WITH THE PROVISO THAT THERE BE NO OBLIGATION UPON <br />THE CITY FOR MAINTENANCE OR FOR POSSIBLE DAMAGES TO OTHER <br />PARTIES. <br /> <br />SINCERELY, <br /> <br />R. JOSEPH S. HOLLADAY~ JR. FOR A SIDEWALK EXTENSION AT THE EIGHTH <br />STREET UNDERPASS AT THE INTERSECTION OF ALBEMARLE STREET. <br /> <br /> SOUTH OF AND THROUGH THE UNDERPASS, THERE IS A SIDEWALK ONLY ON <br />THE EAST SIDE OF THE STREET. THIS SIDEWALK ENDS ABRUPTLY ON THE WEST <br />SIDE OF THE UNDERPASS AND AT PRESENT IT IS NECESSARY FOR A PEDESTRIAN <br />TO GET TEN TO FIFTEEN FEET OUT ON TO THE PAVING OF ALBEMARLE STREET <br />BEFORE IT CAN BE DETERMINED WHETHER THERE IS APPROACHING TRAFFIC ON THAT <br />STREET. <br /> <br /> YOUR COMMITTEE RECOMMENDS THAT THE ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT BE <br />INSTRUCTED TO MAKE A STUDY OF THIS INTERSECTION TO DETERMINE THE <br />PRACTICALITY OF EXTENDING THE EXISTING SIDEWALK ABOUT FIFTEEN FEET <br />OR EVALUATE OTHER IMPROVEMENTS WHICH WILL MAKE THIS INTERSECTION SAFER <br />FOR PEDESTRIANS. <br /> <br /> SINCERELY~ <br /> <br /> R.
