HAGGERTY~ MR. MOUNT~ MR. RENNOLDS AND MR. VOGT, ABSENT: MR. RINEHART. <br /> <br /> THE MAYOR CALLED UPON MR. BOWEN TO INTRODUCE THE STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT OFFICIALS. <br />MR. BOWEN THANKED THE MANY PERSONS PRESENT FOR THEIR OBVIOUS INTEREST AND GAVE A BR£EF <br />HISTORY OF THE SURVEY MADE BY THE STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT. HE STATED THAT THE HIGHWAY <br />DEPARTMENT COMMENCED WORK IN .1965 AND THAT THE SURVEY AS PRESENTED IS FOR THE COMMUNITYIS <br />ARTERIAL STREETS AND HIGHWAY NEEDS TO THE YEAR 1985. HE T. HEN PRESENTED MESSRSo HAROLD <br />RALSTON AND RALPH PERRY FROM THE STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT IN RICHMOND. <br /> <br /> MR. RALSTON DISCUSSED THE SURVEY POINTING OUT IN DETAIL THE DIFFERENT PHASES OF THE <br />PLAN AND WHAT EACH PHASE ENTAILED, HE MENTIONED THAT ALL STREETS SHOWN ON THE PLAN WHEN <br />APPROVED BY COUNCIL AND THE STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR STATE AND <br />FEDERAL FUNDS REGARDLESS OF WHAT SYSTEM THEY ARE IN. <br /> <br /> AFTER THE PRESENTATION BY MR. RALSTON, THE MAYOR CALLED UPON DR, EDGAR ~, SHANN~N~ JR., <br />PRESIDENT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA~ AND MR. T. M. BATCHELOR~ JR., COUNTY <br />EXEC'U~I.VE;~FOR COMMENTS, BOTH MENTIONED THAT THEY WERE VITALLY INTERESTED IN THE <br /> <br />PLANNING AND iMPLEMENTATION OF THE HIGHWAY SURVEY AND WERE GRATEFUL TO HAVE BEEN ASKED <br /> <br />TO THE MEETING. <br /> <br /> MR. BOWEN AND MR. RALSTON THEN ANSWERED NUMEROUS QUESTIONS FROM THE AUDIENCE <br /> <br />CONCERNING THE SURVEY. <br /> <br /> THE RESOLUTION APPROPRIATING 980,000.00 FOR THE PURCHASE OF KNOLLWOOD WATER <br /> <br />COMPANY, WHICH WAS OFFERED AT THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL ON AUGUST 21, 1967, WAS ADOPTED <br /> <br />BY THE FOLLOWING RECORDED VOTE; AYES; MR. HAGGERTY, MR. MOUNT, MR. RENNOLDS AND MR. VOGT. <br /> <br />NOES: NONE. <br /> <br /> ON MOTION THE MEETING ADJOURNED. <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER SEPTEMBER 5, 1967 <br /> <br />COMPLIMENT RE: HIGHWAY <br />SURVEY <br /> <br />REQUEST REZONING <br />WITHDRAWN <br /> <br /> THE COUNCIL MET IN REGULAR SESSION ON THIS DATE WITH THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS PRESENT: <br />MR. HAGGERTY, MR. MOUNT, MR. RENNOLDS AND MR. VOGT. ABSENT: MR. RINEHART. <br /> <br /> THE MINUTES OF THE MEETINGS--OF AUGUST 21, 1967, AUGUST 23, 1967 AND AUGUST 29, 1967 <br />WERE READ AND APPROVED. <br /> <br /> MR. CHARLES E. MORAN7 JR.-ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL AND COMPLIMENTED THEM ON THE RECENT <br />STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT STREET AND HIGHWAY SURVEY. MR. MORAN ALSO CALLED COUNCIL'S <br />ATTENTION TO THE NOISE OF TRUCKS, MOTORCYCLES AND' SPORTS CARS BECAUSE OF INADEQUATE <br />OR DEFECTIVE MUFFLERS. MR. MORAN WAS ASSURED THAT THIS NUISANCE IS BEING DEALT WITH <br />BY THE POLICE. <br /> <br /> A COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM MR. W. W. STEVENSON REQUESTING PERMISSION TO <br />WITHDRAW HIS PETITION FOR REZONING ON ARLINGTON BOULEVARD. ON MOTION BY MR. MOUNT~ <br />SECONDED BY MR, VOGT, THE FOREGOING REQUEST WAS GRANTED. <br /> <br /> <br />
