REPORT: UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA MASTER PLAN

Mr. David Newman, Architect for the University of Virginia, said that the master
plan is really a master site plan. He said four workshops have been held on four major
development areas of the University. His presentation focused on Medical Center
activities in the West Main Street/Jefferson Park Avenue area, and the location of a
cancer center, children's rehabilitation center, research laboratory, and parking garage.
He said the University would like to work with the City on design guidelines for West
Main Street and to improve the area for pedestrians.

Responding to a question from Mr. Lynch, Mr. Newman said that work on the
laboratory space will begin very soon.

Mr. Caravati asked how the proposed extension of Crispell Lane behind the
Hospital will fit into the plan, and Mr. Newman said that there is an ongoing study of a
Shamrock or Maywood Lane connection. He said either would be a good idea.

Mr. Caravati asked if City staff have been given traffic projections for the new
buildings, and Mr. Newman said they will be delivered to the City in a week or two.
