FOR UNDERGROUND UTILITY ON 11TM <br />STREET (2nd reading) <br /> <br /> Mr. Brown explained that after the first reading of the ordinance the University <br />realized one easement had been omitted from the description for a 24" casing pipe. <br /> <br /> Responding to a question from Mr. Caravati, Mr. Brown said that nothing else is <br />going in the ground other than what is described. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Caravati, seconded by Mr. Schilling, the ordinance was <br />amended to add the easement that had been omitted by the following vote. Ayes: Dr. <br />Brown, Mr. Caravati, Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Schilling. Noes: None. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br /> Ms. Mary Beth Haley thanked Mr. Caravati for introducing the resolution <br />supporting a repeal of the ban on same sex civil unions, and said she feels this is a valid <br />way to spend Council time by protecting rights. <br /> <br />OTHER BUSINESS <br /> <br /> Mr. Caravati made a motion to withdraw the item concerning establishing a <br />transportation district from the City's legislative package. He said it is obvious from the <br />meeting held last week with the Board of Supervisors that Albemarle County has no <br />interest in pursuing this issue during this legislative session and it has less of a chance of <br />passage without partnership with Albemarle County. <br /> <br />Mr. Schilling seconded the motion. <br /> <br /> Mr. Lynch expressed concern that Mr. Caravati came away from the meeting with <br />the Board of Supervisors with a different take on what transpired. He said the MPO has <br />convened a group in advance of the legislative session in an attempt to reach consensus. <br /> <br /> Mr. Caravati said he appreciates that, but noted that the filing date for bills is in <br />early December. He said it is clear in discussion with Albemarle County that they will <br />not support it this year. He said we need to do it in close partnership with Albemarle <br />County. <br /> <br /> Ms. Hamilton said she favors a fuel tax and establishing a transportation district <br />and thinks there is solid support for it on the Board of Supervisors, but she agreed that it <br />will take more time to build the consensus we need. She noted that Board of Supervisors <br />member Dennis Rooker expressed concern about going to the General Assembly about <br /> <br /> <br />
