2

Mr. John Gaines, 214 9th Street, N.W. honorary president of the WCEH
Neighborhood Association, said that the Association is on record of supporting a traffic
light at the intersection of Preston Avenue and 10th Street adjacent to Washington Park.
He said that Neighborhood Development Services staff do not support this light because
it is too close to the other light.

Ms. Betty Amiss, 1501 Chesapeake Street, said she would like to participate in
the process regarding CIP improvements in the Woolen Mills neighborhood, and would
like the decision about the sidewalk reconsidered. She expressed concern about whether
the people who supported the sidewalks were residents or property owners. She said she
wants to preserve the retaining walls and plantings. She asked that Council elongate the
process and give the opportunity for input.

Ms. Allison Ewing, 1900 Chesapeake Street, President of the Woolen Mills
Neighborhood Association, said that safety concerns were raised several years ago and
there was a process and plan to approve the sidewalk and to preserve the character of the
neighborhood. She said the sidewalk was fully supported by the neighborhood and she
hopes Council will continue to support it.

Ms. Abhaya Thiele, 912 Woodfolk Drive, 406 Key West Drive, asked Council to
vote no on the Meadowcreek Parkway, Western Bypass and interchange study and
support public transportation, and bike and pedestrian paths instead.

Mr. Alexis Zeigler, 912 Woodfolk Drive, said he was involved in getting bike
lanes established. He said there is a systematic process for developing roads, but not for
alternatives. He suggested that funds for the interchange study be used to develop
alternatives.

Mr. John Salidas, 628 Blenheim Road, asked Council to vote no for the
Meadowcreek Parkway and yes for public transit and bike and pedestrian improvements.

Mr. Gate Pratt, 413 9th Street, N.W., President of the l0th and Page Neighborhood
Association, advocated for a traffic light at the intersection of Preston and 10th Street, and
asked that a portion of the ITS funding be directed to activate and coordinate this light.
He said there are safety concerns with youth who use Washington Park.

CONSENT AGENDA

Mr. Schilling removed the resolution accepting Amherst Commons as a City
street from the consent agenda.

On motion by Mr. Schilling, seconded by Ms. Hamilton, the following consent
agenda items were approved by the following vote, with the minutes of the regular
th
meeting on April 18 amended by Mr. Schilling and Ms. Hamilton.
