2 CONSENT AGENDA Mr. Schilling removed the utility rate ordinance from the consent agenda. Mr. Lynch removed the appropriation for the summer lunch program from the consent agenda. On motion by Mr. Schilling, seconded by Mr. Caravati, the following consent agenda items were approved by the following vote, with the minutes of May 16th amended by Mr. Schilling and Mr. Lynch. Ayes: Dr. Brown, Mr. Caravati (except that Mr. Caravati voted no on approval of the minutes of May 16), Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Schilling (except that Mr. Schilling voted no on approval of the May 16 minutes because he said the transcription of the public section is not adequate). APPROPRIATION: $67,121.50 - School Construction Grant (carried over) ORDINANCE: "AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND REENACTING THE DISTRICT MAP INCORPORATED IN SECITON 34-1 OF THE ZONING ORDINANCE OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, 1990, AS AMENDED, BY THE REZONING OF PORTIONS OF PARCEL 50 OF CITY TAX MAP 54, FROM 4-2 TO HW" (2nd reading) ORDINANCE: "AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND REENACTING CHAPTER 34 (ZONING) OF THE CITY CODE, 1990, AS AMENDED, RELATING TO VARIOUS ZONING ORDINANCE AMENDMENTS" (2nd reading) PUBLIC HEARING: SCHOOL BOARD APPOINTMENTS Dr. Brown read the following list of School Board applicants: Louis M. Bograd, Jean S. Chase, Alvin Edwards, John Gaines, Blair Hawkins, Kenneth Wayne Jackson, Sue Lewis, Joseph Mooney, Chad Everette Thorne, David Randle, Peggy Van Yahres, and Karen Waters. The public hearing was opened. Ms. Dimitra A. Costan, 202 Riverside Avenue, a 4th grade teacher in City schools, asked that Council support Peggy Van Yahres for a second term on the School Board. She said Ms. Van Yahres is dedicated to the job and has helped children achieve. She said it is important to teachers that there be stability on the Board. Mr. John Hunter, 707 Cynthianna Avenue, said he is a teacher in City schools and also supports Peggy Van Yahres. He said Ms. Van Yahres had made herself available to speak to teachers in a collaborative fashion and is committed to students and the schools. Mr. William Atwood, 708 Park Street, supported Alvin Edwards for appointments. He said Rev. Edwards has always been very involved with children and is a very steady person. He said he is a steadfast supporter of children.
