45O <br /> <br /> Ms. Hamilton said that balancing the academic and cultural pieces are important <br />for success, and she asked how we can make this situation into an opportunity, such as <br />helping our students learn Spanish and having our students learn more about other <br />cultures. <br /> <br /> Ms. Julie Gronlund, School Board Chair, said the Schools have not come up with <br />a systematic way to make that happen. <br /> <br /> Mr. Lynch suggested that thought be given to approaching the State Department <br />to request more financial support. <br /> <br /> Mr. Gillaspie presented the budget calendar and very preliminary data. He said <br />significant increases are expected in the Virginia Retirement System and for fuel and <br />utilities. <br /> <br /> Mr. Lynch asked how the fuel increases will impact the School budget this year, <br />and Mr. Gillaspie said he expects it will cost $250,000 to $350,000 more. <br /> <br /> Responding to a question from Mr. Lynch regarding out of district enrollment, <br />Mr. Bobby Thompson, Interim Superintendent of Schools, said that no one has been <br />turned away. <br /> <br /> Ms. Gronlund provided an update on the Superintendent search. She said the <br />leadership profile report has been received from the consultant which was derived from <br />public and staff input. She said the recruitment phase will start immediately. <br /> <br /> Ms. Dede Smith, School Board member, said that the first phase of development <br />of the Strategic Plan is wrapping up and the next phase will be to develop goals and <br />objectives. <br /> <br />The meeting was adjourned. <br /> <br />President Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
