<br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY COUNCIL WILL BE <br />HELD ON Thursday, February 8, 2007 AT 5:00 p.m. IN THE Basement Conference <br />Room. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Work Session on Vision Themes: “A Connected Community” and “A Green City” <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox <br /> <br />BASEMENT CONFERENCE ROOM – February 8, 2007 <br /> <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the following members present: <br />Dr. Brown, Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. <br /> <br />A Connected Community <br /> <br /> <br /> Councilors indicated they were satisfied with the statement for the vision theme <br />“A Connected Community.” <br /> <br /> Mr. Lynch said he thinks a major strategy is missing: working with the County, <br />U. Va. and the community to create and promote a regional road network. <br /> <br /> It was suggested that this be added as Strategy #VI. <br /> <br />Strategy I: Regional advocacy campaign to improve all modes in transportation the State. <br /> <br /> Mr. Lynch said there should be a process to ensure the City and County have a <br />presence at the General Assembly deliberations to try to get relief. <br /> <br /> Ms. Hamilton said she thinks the transportation group that was established was an <br />important group. <br /> <br /> Mr. Lynch said we should make sure Senator Deeds and Delegate Toscano know <br />that the City and County are getting the short end of the stick with regard to <br />transportation funding. <br /> <br /> Ms. Hamilton said that Charlottesville is a bottleneck for traffic, but is not getting <br />extra funds. <br /> <br /> Mr. Norris asked if the transportation group could be reconvened. <br /> <br /> Mr. Lynch said we should initiate specific lobbying efforts with the General <br />Assembly. He said he does not disagree with the action plan, we just need to do it. <br /> <br />Ms. Hamilton suggested a joint letter of support form the City and County. <br /> <br /> Mr. Lynch suggested an action plan of working specifically with Albemarle <br />County to go lobby the General Assembly for transportation funding. <br /> <br /> Dr. Brown said he would like it to be larger than just Albemarle County. <br /> <br /> Mr. Lynch said there are specific things to do, and said we have to do some of the <br />design and advocacy for the eastern connector. <br /> <br /> Ms. Hamilton said we need to officially discuss the regional transportation issue. <br /> <br /> Dr. Brown asked if it would be better to say that we encourage more joint <br />meetings. <br /> <br /> <br />
