2 <br /> <br /> Ms. Rebecca Bradder, 907 Anderson Street, complained about the removal of bus <br />th <br />service on 9 Street. She said people now have to walk to Preston Avenue to catch a bus. <br />She asked that the service be put back. <br /> <br /> Ms. Ann Carter, 715 Orangedale Avenue, asked if Council has agreed to a <br />meeting regarding the historic designation of Fifeville. <br /> <br /> Mr. Peter Kleeman, 407 Hedge Street, said he has not been able to find details <br />about the plans for the Meadowcreek Parkway. He suggested that the City provide a <br />detailed description of the plans and determine whether the benefits are worth the <br />investment before moving forward. <br /> <br /> Mr. Jeffrey Rossman, 1843 Edgewood Lane, said that as a concerned citizen he <br />feels less confident because of how the issue of providing EMS service has been handled. <br />He asked if mechanisms are in place to determine the facts, to work with the Rescue <br />Squad to see what problems exist, and to assure that what is proposed is the most cost <br />efficient. <br /> <br /> Ms. Stephanie Maloy, City Market Manager, announced that City Market will <br />th <br />open on April 7 and a Wednesday Market will operate in Meade Park beginning in May. <br />She said she is excited that the Market has a new partner, Market Central, a new non- <br />profit association. <br /> <br /> Ms. Cecile Gorham, Sycamore Street, a member of Market Central, said the new <br />association welcomes community and vendor participation. She said their long term goal <br />is to find a permanent location for City Market. <br /> <br /> Ms. Virginia Hester, 800 Orangedale Avenue, thanked Council for funding the <br />AHIP program and thanked Council for the real estate tax grant program. She expressed <br />concern about 87 people being evicted from their homes. She said snow and ice need to <br />be shoveled from sidewalks, but the disabled cannot do that. She asked Council to do <br />something about that. <br /> <br /> Ms. Naomi Roberts, 1140 St. Clair Avenue, said her family cannot afford to pay a <br />fee to use the Charlottesville Albemarle Rescue Squad (CARS). She expressed concern <br />about the EMS proposal. She said the independent study has not been made public. She <br />asked why the City has not contributed to CARS. She asked if it is true that the City has <br />already ordered ambulances. She said there should be a referendum on whether to have a <br />paid ambulance service. <br /> <br />COUNCIL RESPONSES TO MATTERS BY THE PUBLIC <br /> <br /> Ms. Hamilton said that a group, including Joy Johnson and local ministers, has <br />raised money to prevent the 87 people mentioned by Ms. Hester from being evicted from <br />public housing and want to provide counseling to residents. She noted that every year the <br />Housing Authority has to write off substantial amounts of unpaid rent. She said she is <br />grateful for their efforts, but she said HUD is giving less and less funds every year and <br />the Housing Authority needs the rent payments in order to operate. She said Council will <br />be looking into the change in bus service. <br /> <br /> Mr. Norris said that some decisions about the transit service have had unintended <br />consequences, and he feels we have to look at this issue again. <br /> <br /> Mr. Taliaferro said there is a lot of misinformation about the EMS proposal. He <br />said he is not aware that anyone has ordered ambulances. He said he hopes these issues <br />can get resolved with the oversight committee. <br /> <br /> Dr. Brown said the Fifeville meeting regarding historic designation will be held <br />on April 12 at 6:30 p.m. at Buford School. <br /> <br /> <br />
