BLACK PROPERTY <br />ON CARLTON ROAD <br />ORDINANCE ADOPTED RE: <br />DISTRICT MAP - SEC. 33-4 <br />CH. 33. <br />MATTER RE: NEGRO ON HOUSING <br />AUTHORITY <br />MATTER RE: SURPLUS FUND <br />SCHOOL BOARD - REPAIRS 8c <br />IMPROVEMENTS LANE HI SCH. <br />AUTHORIZED <br />MATTER RE: SANITARY SEWERAGE <br />SERVICE - SHERWOOD ROAD <br />BE AUTHORIZED TO EXECUTE THE CONTRACT ON BEHALF OF THE CITY. <br />ON MOTION BY MR. SCRIBNER, SECONDED BY MR. WEINBERG, THE MAYOR WAS <br />AUTHORIZED TO EXECUTE ON BEHALF OF THE CITY A CONTRACT WITH THE H. B. SEDWICK <br />CONSTRUCTION COMPANY FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A TERMINAL BUILDING AT THE <br />CHARLOTTESVILLE-ALBEMARLE AIRPORT AS PER THEIR BID DATED JUNE 1H, 1959, AND <br />THAT THE ACTING CLERK, JAS. E. BOWEN, JR., BE AND HE IS HEREBY DIRECTED TO <br />AFFIX AND ATTEST THE OFFICIAL SEAL OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA, <br />TO THE SAID CONTRACT. <br />ON MOTION THE MEETING ADJOURNED. <br /> <br />'; l^ , ,, <br />ACTING LER ` RESIDENT <br />i <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER - AUGUST 17, 1959 <br />THE COUNCIL MET IN REGULAR SESSION ON THIS DATE WITH THE FOLLOWING <br />MEMBERS PRESENT: MR. DAVIS, MR. MICHIE, MR. SCRIBNER AND MR. WEINBERG. <br />ABSENT: MR. COLEMAN. <br />THE MINUTES OF THE MEETINGS OF AUGUST 3, 1959, AUGUST 6, 1959 AND <br />AUGUST 13,1959 WERE READ AND APPROVED. <br />A PUBLIC HEARING WAS HELD ON THIS GATE ON THE PETITION OF MR. O. W. BLACK <br />AND OTHERS REQUESTING THAT A PORTION OF HiS PROPERTY LOCATED ON CARLTON ROAD <br />BE CHANGED FROM A M-Z DISTRICT TO A M-1 DISTRICT. NO ONE APPEARED FOR OR <br />AGAINST THE PETITION. THE PLANNING COMMISSION'S REPORT WAS PRESENTED <br />RECOMMENDING FAVORABLY ON MR. BLACKS PETITION. <br />AN ORDINANCE ENTITlEO " AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE DISTRICT MAP <br />INCORPORATED IN THE ZONING ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE BY <br />THE PROVISIONS OF SECTION 33-4 OF CHAPTER 33 OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY <br />CODE OF 1945, AS AMENDED", WHICH WAS OFFERED AT THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL <br />ON JULY 20, 1959, WAS ADOPTED BY THE FOLLOWING RECORDED VOTE: AYES: MR. <br />DAVIS, MR. MICHIE, MR. SCRIBNER AND MR. WEINBERG. NOES: NONE. <br />MR. GEORGE R. FERGUSON ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL AND STATED THAT A PETITION <br />HAD BEEN SENT TO THE COUNCIL REOUESTING THAT A NEGRO BE PLACED ON THE HOUSING <br />AUTHORITY. THE MAYOR ADVISED MR. FERGUSON THAT THERE WERE NO VACANCIES ON <br />THE HOUSING AUTHORITY AT THIS TIME, AND THAT THE PETITION WOULD BE GIVEN <br />CAREFUL CONSIDERATION WHEN A VACANCY OCCURRED ON THE HOUSING AUTHORITY. <br />MR. ROSCOE S. ADAMS, CHAIRMAN OF THE SCHOOL BOARD, ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL <br />AND STATED THAT THE SCHOOL BOARD HAD SURPLUS FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $28,OOO.OO. <br />HE STATED THAT THE SCHOOL BOARD WOULD LIKE TO MAKE CERTAIN REPAIRS AND <br />IMPROVEMENTS AT LANE HIGH SCHOOL IN THE AMOUNT OF APPROXIMATELY $17,500.00. <br />6,000.00 OF THIS WOULD BE FOR REPLACING SEATS IN THE AUDITORIUMS 6,000.00 <br />WOULD BE FOR NEW BLEACHERS IN THE GYMNASIUM AND $5,500.00 WOULD BE FOR THE <br />INSTALLATION OF A WIRE BASKET SYSTEM IN THE GYMNASIUM TO REPLACE LOCKERS. <br />ON MOTION BY MR. SCRIBNER, SECONDED BY MR. WEINBERG, THE SCHOOL BOARD WAS <br />AUTHORIZED TO MAKE THE ABOVE REPAIRS AND IMPROVEMENTS AT AN ESTIMATED COST <br />of $17,,500.00. <br />A PETITION FROM FOUR PROPERTY OWNERS ON SHERWOOD ROAD REQUESTING THAT THE <br />CITY PROVIDE SEWAGE SERVICE TO THEIR PROPERTIES AND THAT THE STORM DRAIN BE <br />REPAIRED WAS PRESENTED. THE CITY MANAGER PRESENTED A REPORT FROM THE CITY <br />ENGINEER STATING THAT TN ESE PROPERTIES WERE DEVELOPED BY THE SUBDIVIDER AND <br />
