414 <br />A communication from the Pure Oil Company requesting permission to operate <br />Request to operate <br />filling station carried <br />a gasoline filling station at 9th Street, S. W. and Cherry Avenue, was carried <br />over . <br />over to July 18, 1960 for consideration. <br />A communication was presented from Mr. M. A. Sparks requesting that Lyons <br />Avenue, Extended be accepted into the City street system for maintenance. The <br />Lyons Ave., Extd <br />accepted into City St. <br />Street Committee recommended the acceptance of this street as requested. On <br />System <br />motion by Mr. Davis, seconded by Mr. Scribner, the foregoing tecommendation <br />was unanimously adopted. <br />The following communication was presented from the C&A Bus Company: <br />June 8, 1960 <br />Mr . Jame s E. Bowen <br />City Manager <br />City of Charlottesville <br />Charlottesville, Virginia <br />Dear Mr. Bowen: <br />Communication from <br />C&A Bus Co. re: <br />Franchise Our fifteen year franchise to operate local buses in the City <br />of Charlottesville has recently expired and it is not our intention <br />to seek a new franchise to perform this service. <br />In order that this service to the many people who have no other <br />means of transportation does not come to a halt, we feel that we <br />are able and willing to operate this service until June 15, 1961. <br />In order to do this we respectfully request that we be permitted <br />to discontinue our service after 7:00 P. M. on week days and 2:00 P. M. <br />on Sundays, and that the franchise tax be eliminated. <br />We do appreciate the fine cooperation we have had with your office <br />and the members of the City Council who have regulated this Company <br />for the past twenty-five years. <br />With kind regards, I remain <br />Sincerely yours, <br />B. Rennolds (signed) <br />alt <br />The City Manager recommended that the C&A Bus Company be permitted to <br />operate in accordance with the foregoing request and that a committee be <br />appointed in the near future to study this matter. <br />On motion by Mr. Scribner, seconded by Mr. Weinberg, the foregoing re- <br />commendation was unanimously adopted with the request that the Bus Company <br />continue its present operation through July 2, 1960. <br />The following certificate was received and ordered spread in the minutes <br />of this meeting: <br />VIRGINIA:- In the Clerk's Office of the Corporation Court of the City <br />of Charlottesville, June 16th, 1960. <br />We, the undersigned Commissioners of Election at the General Municipal <br />Abstract of Votes Election held in the City of Charlottesville, Virginia, on the second Tuesday <br />General Municipal <br />Election in June, 1960, that being June 14th, 1:960, do hereby CERTIFY that the fore- <br />going statement of votes is a true and correct abstract from the returns of <br />said General Municipal Election for the office of COUNCILMAN of said City of <br />Charlottesville and do therefore determine and declare that at said election <br />
