<br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY COUNCIL WILL BE <br />HELD ON Monday, July 16, 2007 AT 6:00 p.m. IN THE Second Floor Conference <br />Room. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Closed session as provided by Section 2.2-3712 of the Virginia Code <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox <br /> <br />SECOND FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM – July 16, 2007 <br /> <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the following members present: <br />Dr. Brown, Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Taliaferro, seconded by Mr. Lynch, Council voted (Ayes: Dr. <br />Brown, Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. Noes: None) to meet in <br />closed session for discussion and consideration of specific candidates for appointment to <br />boards and commissions, as authorized by Section 2.2-3711(A)(1) of the Virginia Code, <br />and discussion and consideration of the disposition of publicly held real property located <br />at the intersection of Ridge Street and Cherry Avenue, where discussion in an open <br />meeting would adversely affect the City’s bargaining position and negotiating strategy, as <br />authorized by Section 2.2-3711(A)(3) of the Virginia Code <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Taliaferro, seconded by Ms. Hamilton, Council certified by the <br />following vote (Ayes: Dr. Brown, Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. <br />Noes: None) that to the best of each Council Member's knowledge, only public business <br />matters lawfully exempted from the open meeting requirements of the Virginia Freedom <br />of Information Act and identified in the motion convening the closed session were heard, <br />discussed or considered in the closed session. <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER – July 16, 2007 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: <br />Dr. Brown, Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. <br /> <br />ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> <br /> Ms. Hamilton said that she will bring up the recent article about high mortgage <br />lending rates for African Americans during Other Business. <br /> <br /> Mr. Taliaferro said he will bring up the issues of police hiring bonuses and trash <br />pickup during Other Business. <br /> <br /> Dr. Brown said he will bring up the City/County Task Force on Affordable <br />Housing during Other Business. <br /> <br />AWARDS/RECOGNITIONS <br /> <br /> Dr. Brown presented a proclamation recognizing Jerry Tomlin, Property <br />Maintenance Official in Neighborhood Development Services, for his 30 years of service <br />to the City. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br /> Mr. David Repass, 227 E. Jefferson Street, said he lives two blocks from the <br />downtown mall and used to walk to the mall, but now is afraid to go out at night due to <br />the recent assaults reported in the downtown area. He said if cameras were installed he <br />would feel safer. <br /> <br /> <br />
