2
Ms. Megan Jetton, 120 Dogwood Heights, Scottsville, asked that Council support
a resolution supporting a Federal Department of Peace.

Ms. Erin Wise-Ackerbom, 1031 St. Clair Avenue, a teacher at Monticello High
School, asked Council to support the resolution calling for a Department of Peace. She
said 32 localities around the country have supported such a resolution. She asked people
in the audience to stand in support and several stood. She presented a petition with 100
signatures from Charlottesville High School in support of the resolution.

Ms. Allison Slauson, 2035 Tremont Road, and Ms. Katie Stewart, 3874 Thomas
Dairy Lane, sang an original anti-war song.

Ms. Mary Kelly, 760 Lexington Avenue, asked that Council support HB 808
calling for a Department of Peace and Nonviolence.

Ms. Christine Solem, 1836 Polo Grounds Road, said that a bill has passed the
General Assembly that will allow private homes to sell certain homemade goods without
inspections.

Mr. Ridge Schuyler, Executive Director of the Nature Conservancy, 112
Robinson Woods, said an additional threat to our watershed is excessive withdrawals. He
said a study was commissioned and they are working to balance the need for water
supply for people and wildlife.

Mr. Travis Harris, representing IMPACT, said he appreciates Councilors
attending their meeting and thanked them for dedicating $500,000 for housing for people
under 30% of AMI. He said he hopes the amount will be increased in the future and that
there will be a dedicated revenue stream for affordable housing programs.

COUNCIL RESPONSES TO MATTERS BY THE PUBLIC

Dr. Brown said he enjoyed the music, and while he thinks a Department of Peace
is a good idea, he is not sure it is the role of Council to advise the federal government
about its structure. He recommended that the group advise their federal representatives.
He said he supports the concept.

Mr. Huja said he appreciates the comments made, and thinks Council can advise
the federal government, and thinks it would be good to pass a resolution supporting a
Department of Peace.

Mr. Taliaferro said he would have no problem supporting the resolution. He said
he is a combat veteran, and he would support any effort that might eliminate war.

Mr. Norris agreed and asked that the resolution be added to the next agenda.

APPOINTMENTS
: BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS

On motion by Dr. Brown, seconded by Mr. Taliaferro, Ms. Rebecca Schoenthal
was appointed to a four-year term on the Board of Architectural Review (business owner
in design control district) by the following vote.
