NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY COUNCIL WILL BE HELD ON Monday, July 7, 2008 AT 6:15 p.m. IN THE Second Floor Conference Room. THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: Closed session as provided by Section 2.2-3712 of the Virginia Code BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox SECOND FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM – July 7, 2008 Council met in special session on this date with the following members present: Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. On motion by Dr. Brown, seconded by Mr. Huja, Council voted (Ayes: Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. Noes: None) to meet in closed session for discussion and consideration of the acquisition of certain real property th located on 5 Street, S.W. for a public purpose, and the disposition of publicly held property located near the intersection of Ridge Street and Cherry Avenue, where discussion in an open meeting would adversely affect the bargaining position and negotiating strategy of the City, as authorized by Section 2.2-3711(A)(3) of the Virginia Code, and for discussion and consideration of prospective candidates for appointment to City boards and commission, as authorized by Section 2.2-3711(A)(1) of the Virginia Code. On motion by Mr. Taliaferro, seconded by Dr. Brown, Council certified by the following vote (Ayes: Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. Noes: None) that to the best of each Council Member's knowledge, only public business matters lawfully exempted from the open meeting requirements of the Virginia Freedom of Information Act and identified in the motion convening the closed session were heard, discussed or considered in the closed session. COUNCIL CHAMBER – July 7, 2008 Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. ANNOUNCEMENTS Mr. Taliaferro said that there will be a fundraiser on Saturday for the African- American Heritage Foundation. Ms. Edwards said that the Boys and Girls Club will hold a health fair on Saturday. She said she will be a judge for an arm wresting fund raiser for SARA. She said she will bring up funding for the African-American Cultural Arts Festival during other business. Dr. Brown said he would like to discuss the environmental checklist during other business. Mr. Norris noted that there will be route changes to CTS starting in August. He said applications for the tax relief programs are now available. TH AWARDS/RECOGNITIONS : 100 ANNIVERSARY OF PEPSI-COLA BOTTLING COMPANY OF CENTRAL VIRGINIA; PARKS AND RECREATION MONTH PROCLAMATION th Mr. Norris presented a proclamation recognizing the 100 anniversary of the Pepsi Cola bottling Company of Central Virginia and recognizing July as Parks and Recreation Month.
