13
It was the consensus of Council to seek authority from the General Assembly for
a one cent increase in the sales tax.

Mr. Huja asked if we should have a fallback position on a grab bag approach, but
Mr. Norris said the matter can come back to Council if needed.

OTHER BUSINESS

Ms. Edwards said that the Dredging Task Force has met twice and is looking at
what the current uses are of the reservoir and what we want to see there, what the
obstacles are, what it would cost to remove them, and who pays. She said the Task Force
is working on a public input plan.

Dr. Brown said that the General Assembly has authorized localities to pass anti-
idling policies for private buses. He said it is his understanding that private bus owners
do not oppose such a policy. He asked the City Attorney to look at developing an
ordinance.

Mr. Norris noted that there are untrue rumors circulating about him providing bus
passes to homeless persons.

Mr. O’Connell said a follow-up report on Council’s retreat will be put on the
th
October 6 agenda.

PUBLIC

Ms. Betty Mooney, 201 Sunset Avenue, said she appreciates Council’s work but
they need to think seriously about investigating the airport runway issue. She said she
feels we have been lied to. She said it would result in millions of dollars in savings.

Mr. Kevin Lynch, 609 Locust Avenue, said it is true that there are problems with
the Meadowcreek interceptor pipe and it is too small, but that does not mean we have a
capacity problem. He said the City is being asked to pay for 56% of the cost of it. Mr.
Lynch said he never heard that the airport runway needs to be expanded so larger jets can
come in, it is needed for existing jets. He expressed concern about misinformation being
out there.

Mr. Norris said staff has been asked for reports on both the interceptor and the
runway issues and they will be made public.

The meeting was adjourned.

______________________________ _____________________________
President Clerk
