<br /> <br />4 <br /> Councilors supported funding for planning for the Health Sciences <br />Academy. <br /> <br /> Dr. Brown said he has trouble with the Walker/Buford World of Work <br />Academy due to the age of the students, and Mr. Huja agreed. <br /> <br /> Mr. Norris said his preference would be to fold it into the City’s summer <br />youth internship. <br /> <br /> Mr. Watts said this proposal is an attempt to get Walker and Buford <br />students ready to go into the internship program. <br /> <br /> Ms. Edwards said she would like to see something for that age group. <br /> <br /> Mr. Norris noted that Walker has a leadership program now. <br /> <br /> Mr. O’Connell suggested putting this proposal on hold until more <br />information can be gotten from the Schools. <br /> <br /> Councilors agreed to put both the Walker/Buford World of Work <br />Academy and Buford/CHS Summer Workforce proposals on hold. <br /> <br /> The majority of Council supported the Buford/CHS/CATEC Sustainable <br />Urban Design (youth) proposal. <br /> <br /> Ms. Edwards said she is worried about how the Adult Learning Center <br />Skills for Workers proposal would translate into skills. <br /> <br /> Mr. Norris said he wants to see it woven into the training program. <br /> <br /> There was no support for the Adult Learning Center Skills for Workers <br />proposal. <br /> <br /> Mr. Norris said that the CHS/CATEC Sustainable Urban Design (Adult) <br />proposal is similar to what CRHA is doing with redevelopment. <br /> <br /> There was no support for the CHS/CATEC Sustainable Urban Design <br />(Adult) proposal. <br /> <br /> Council discussed the City proposals. <br /> <br /> Councilors supported Public Transit for VIEW clients. <br /> <br /> Councilors supported putting in $10,000 or $15,000 into the <br />Entrepreneurial Scholarship proposal. <br /> <br /> Mr. Huja said he is not sure what we will get for additional support for <br />SBDC, and Ms. Gillespie, Executive Director, said it will allow more clients to be <br />provided with counseling and seminars. <br /> <br /> Mr. O’Connell suggested talking more about this proposal during the <br />budget. <br /> <br /> Council agreed to reconsider the proposal during the budget. <br /> <br /> Mr. Norris said he thinks the support for local business proposal is a great <br />initiative, but he does not know if we get the best bang for the buck. <br /> <br /> Dr. Brown said he is not keen on more funding unless he sees results from <br />the current campaign. He said he would prefer to create incentives for businesses <br />to hire local residents. <br /> <br /> <br />
