1 NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY COUNCIL WILL BE HELD ON Monday, April 6, 2009 AT 6:30 p.m. IN THE Second Floor Conference Room. THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: Closed session as provided by Section 2.2-3712 of the Virginia Code BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox SECOND FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM – April 6, 2009 Council met in special session on this date with the following members present: Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. On motion by Dr. Brown, seconded by Mr. Taliaferro, Council voted (Ayes: Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro) to meet in closed session for discussion and consideration of prospective candidates for appointments to City boards and commission as authorized by Section 2.2-3711(A)(1) of the Virginia Code. On motion by Mr. Taliaferro, seconded by Ms. Edwards, Council certified by the following vote (Ayes: Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. Noes: None) that to the best of each Council Member's knowledge, only public business matters lawfully exempted from the open meeting requirements of the Virginia Freedom of Information Act and identified in the motion convening the closed session were heard, discussed or considered in the closed session. COUNCIL CHAMBER – April 6, 2009 Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. ANNOUNCEMENTS Mr. Norris announced that City Market will be open starting on Saturday. Ms. Edwards said a Community Job Fair will be held on April 27. She said third quarter report cards are out. She commended CHS student Emma Payne for her article on the Meadowcreek Parkway. Dr. Brown commended the Mayor for completing the 10 miler race. Mr. Taliaferro said he and Ms. Edwards met with Dr. Frank Friedman, President of Piedmont Virginia Community College, and Mr. Tim Hulbert, President of the Chamber of Commerce, about workforce development. He said they are looking at the possibility of a downtown satellite office and other ideas. AWARDS/RECOGNITIONS : HISTORIC PRESERVATION WEEK; SHOP CHARLOTTESVILLE MONTH Mr. Norris presented the proclamations for Historic Preservation Week and Shop Charlottesville Month. PUBLIC Ms. Carolyn Berry thanked Council for their support for installing audio signals at intersections which will help the blind safely cross streets.
