NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY COUNCIL WILL BE HELD ON Monday, August 17, 2009 AT 6:15 p.m. IN THE Second Floor Conference Room. THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: 1) Interview: Planning Commission (the interview will be open to the public for observation only) 2) Closed session as provided by Section 2.2-3712 of the Virginia Code BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox SECOND FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM – August 17, 2009 Council met in special session on this date with the following members present: Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. Council interviewed Gloria Rockhold for the vacancy on the Planning Commission. On motion by Dr. Brown, seconded by Ms. Edwards, Council voted to meet in closed session for discussion and consideration of prospective candidates for appointment to City boards and commissions as provided by Section 2.2-3711(A)(1) of the Virginia Code. On motion by Dr. Brown, seconded by Ms. Edwards, Council certified by the following vote (Ayes: Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. Noes: None) that to the best of each Council Member's knowledge, only public business matters lawfully exempted from the open meeting requirements of the Virginia Freedom of Information Act and identified in the motion convening the closed session were heard, discussed or considered in the closed session. COUNCIL CHAMBER – August 17, 2009 Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. ANNOUNCEMENTS Mr. Norris announced that the dedication of the newly renovated Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court will be held on August 22; schools start on August 25; a rain barrel workshop will be held on August 26; the City will sponsor a free concert on September 11. He added an update on the dredging study and stormwater regulations to other business. Ms. Edwards reminded parents that upcoming Charlottesville High School students should have received their SOL scores. She said she will provide an update on the race dialogue during other business. AWARDS/RECOGNITIONS : WOMEN’S EQUALITY DAY PROCLAMATION Mr. Norris presented the Women’s’ Equality Day proclamation. PUBLIC Mr. David Steinberg, Albemarle County resident, expressed concern about the Meadowcreek Parkway taking green space. Mr. Jim Moore, 1213 Hazel Street, representing golfers at McIntire Park, said he would like to show the video interviews about the Park to the public. He said the Park is under threat by the botanical gardens. He said the golfers are a diverse group.
