2 <br /> <br /> Ms. Lynn Taylor, 1001 Montrose Avenue, said she is a First Tee coach and <br />volunteer at McIntire Golf Course. She said the course was previously underutilized <br />because it was not maintained. She said since First Tee has started using it the course and <br />usage has improved. She asked Council to commit to letting First Tee have access to a <br />golf course. <br /> <br /> Mr. Rich Collins, 108 Wilson Court, said he was dumbfounded when he read that <br />Albemarle County Supervisor candidates are opposed to dredging. He asked Council to <br />create a special task force to have oversight of the dredging study. <br /> <br /> Ms. Betty Mooney, 201 Sunset Avenue, thanked Council for supporting the <br />dredging study and getting good information. <br /> <br /> Ms. Colette Hall, 101 Robertson Lane, referring to the master plan for McIntire <br />Park, asked if the Mayor’s assurance that softball fields will remain is still true. She <br />asked if the boardwalk grant is the same trail as the 250 design. As President of the <br />North Downtown Neighborhood Association, she thanked Mr. Taliaferro for attending <br />the Birdwood community meeting. <br /> <br /> Mr. Paul Long, 1410 Grady Avenue, said it appears that Council’s vision was <br />crafted by upper middle class professionals. He said there are many other residents who <br />cannot attain the lifestyle envisioned by the vision. He said we need better transit <br />service, and we should encourage Fortune 500 companies to come to the City. <br /> <br /> Mr. David Blount, Legislative Liaison for the Thomas Jefferson Planning District <br />Commission, asked for input from Council on the regional legislative program. He said <br />he will send out a draft in a month and will be back in October with priorities. He said he <br />expects money matters to be the top priority. <br /> <br /> Mr. John Cruickshank, a resident of Earlysville, representing the Piedmont Group <br />of the Sierra Club, noted the number of “Save McIntire Park” signs up in neighborhoods. <br />He asked Council to change the course with the Meadowcreek Parkway. He said there is <br />a lot of confusion and Council should vote against the permanent easement through the <br />park. He said there are over 1,000 signatures on a petition to “Save McIntire Park,” and <br />he suggested that Council hold a reference on the matter. <br /> <br /> Mr. Stratton Salidas, 704 Graves Street, agreed with comments made by Mr. <br />Collins and Ms. Mooney. He said the dam is a big scam. He said there is confusion over <br />information about the Meadowcreek Parkway and federal regulations are being ignored. <br /> <br /> Ms. Pat Napoleon, 700 Lyons Avenue, said there are “Save McIntire Park” signs <br />everywhere. She noted that Mr. Moore’s video will be shown at City Space at 8:00 p.m. <br /> <br /> Mr. Bob Fenwick, 901 E. Jefferson Street, agreed with the comments of Mr. <br />Steinberg. He asked Council to listen to the will of the people and save McIntire Park. <br /> <br /> Ms. Brenda Lambert, 301 Montevista Avenue, asked Council to support a <br />resolution asking the General Assembly to pass legislation about nondiscrimination based <br />on sexual orientation. <br /> <br /> Ms. Andre Yates, Equality Virginia, asked Council to put the nondiscrimination <br />resolution on the September agenda. She asked people in the audience who support the <br />resolution to stand and many stood. <br /> <br /> Mr. Helen Flemini, President of McIntire Botanical Garden, said a presentation <br />th <br />will be given on August 28 for the proposal for the east side of McIntire Park. She said <br />she hopes the City will promote programs for Sundays in the Park. <br /> <br /> Mr. Rick Turner, President of the Albemarle-Charlottesville NAACP, said he <br />attending the meeting in support of Mr. Ray Jones. <br /> <br /> <br />
