He said work is being done to revise <br />the priority list and to recommend a new system. <br /> <br /> Mr. Huja said he would like to see new bike paths independent of roads and see <br />that our networks are connected. <br /> <br />America’s Healthiest City <br /> <br /> Mr. O’Connell said an update will be given to Council in November on the <br />Dialogue on Race. He said it is being discussed in the community and the kick-off will <br />be held in early December. <br /> <br /> Ms. Beauregard noted that the number of VIEW client trips on CTS has <br />increased. <br /> <br /> Mr. Robert Cox, Director of Social Services, said that the number of people <br />receiving services in the VIEW program is up 50%. <br /> <br /> Referring to the poverty dialogue, Dr. Brown suggested having some sort of <br />outreach in the low income community quarterly (i.e. Councilors going to different parts <br />of the City and having staff there to follow up on issues). <br /> <br /> Ms. Edwards said this should be part of a comprehensive program of moving <br />people out of poverty. She said she would like to see what models we could use. She <br />suggested linking it to workforce development, and said we should think about incubator <br />businesses in neighborhoods. <br /> <br />Quality Housing Opportunities for All <br /> <br /> Mr. Norris said a trend line would be helpful, not just the number of new units. <br /> <br /> Dr. Brown said it would be good to get that data in coordination with the County <br />to show what the City and region are doing. <br /> <br /> Mr. Huja said he would like to explore more incentives for developers to get them <br />to build more affordable units. <br /> <br />Green City <br /> <br /> Mr. Brian Daly, Acting Director of Parks and Recreation, said that an inventory of <br />specimen trees has been done on public property. <br /> <br /> Mr. Huja wondered if we should do an inventory of trees on private property. <br /> <br /> Mr. Daly said that could be done, but it would require the owner’s permission. <br /> <br /> Mr. Huja said he would like to see at least 500 trees planted next year. <br /> <br /> Mr. Daly said that would be difficult to do unless they are seedlings. He <br />recommended that the focus be on where trees need to be added based on the inventory <br />and current canopy coverage <br /> <br /> Mr. Norris asked if we should engage others to help, and Mr. Daly said yes, we <br />should foster relationships for planting on private property. <br /> <br /> Mr. Norris suggested offering developers the opportunity to proffers tree planting <br />elsewhere from their development. <br /> <br /> Mr. Daly said the recommendation has been made to create a tree commission, or <br />to have the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board serve in that role. <br /> <br /> <br />
