<br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY COUNCIL WILL BE <br />HELD ON Tuesday, January 19, 2010 AT 6:15 p.m. IN THE Second Floor Conference <br />Room. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Closed session as provided by Section 2.2-3712 of the Virginia Code <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR <br /> <br />SECOND FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM – January 19, 2010 <br /> <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the following members present: <br />Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Ms. Szakos. <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Brown, seconded by Ms. Edwards, Council voted (Ayes: Dr. <br />Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Ms. Szakos. Noes: None) to meet in closed <br />session for 1) discussion and consideration of appointments of specific individuals to City <br />boards and commissions as authorized by Section 2.2-3711(A)(1) of the Virginia Code; <br />2) discussion and consideration of the acquisition of real property on Summit Street for a <br />th <br />public purpose, and the acquisition and disposition of real property on 4 Street, N.W. for <br />a public purpose, where in both cases a discussion in an open meeting would adversely <br />affect the bargaining position or negotiating strategy of the City, as authorized by Section <br />2.2-3711(A)(3) of the Virginia Code; and 3) consultation with legal counsel regarding the <br />negotiation of a cost sharing agreement with the Albemarle County Service Authority, <br />which requires the provision of legal advice by such counsel, as authorized by Section <br />2.2-3711(A)(7) of the Virginia Code. <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Brown, seconded by Mr. Huja, Council certified by the <br />following vote (Ayes: Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Ms. Szakos. <br />Noes: None) that to the best of each Council Member's knowledge, only public business <br />matters lawfully exempted from the open meeting requirements of the Virginia Freedom <br />of Information Act and identified in the motion convening the closed session were heard, <br />discussed or considered in the closed session. <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER – January 19, 2010 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: <br />Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Ms. Szakos. <br /> <br />ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> <br /> Dr. Brown said the Paramount Theater will be airing “Locked Out” on February 1 <br />and he encouraged everyone to see it. <br /> Mr. Huja said he attended the Very Special Arts show and encouraged everyone <br />to go. <br /> <br /> Mr. Norris said the City’s winter blood drive will be January 20, the Library’s Big <br />th <br />Read will be held in February, the City has been ranked as the 5 healthiest city in <br />American in Men’s Journal, and there will be a community relief event on January 23 at <br />Fry’s Spring Beach Club to raise money for victims of Haiti’s earthquake. <br /> <br /> Ms. Edwards said flu vaccinations will be available at the Health Department <br />tomorrow, scholarships for PVCC are available for next year, and 500 people are <br />planning to participate in the Dialogue on Race. <br /> <br /> Mr. O’Connell said the number of Dialogue on Race participants has increased to <br />600. <br /> <br /> <br />
