ORDINANCE: "AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE CONVEYANCE <br /> OF EASEMENTS TO CHARLOTTESVILLE 2000" (2nd reading) <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARING: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: <br />EXPANSION <br /> <br />AUTHORIZING APPLICATION FOR ISTEA GRANT <br />(IVY ROAD IMPROVEMENTS BIKE LANE/GREENBELT <br /> <br /> Mr. Satyendra Huja, Director of Community Development, explained that ISTEA funds <br />can be used for non-automobile related transportation improvements, and the Ivy Road bike <br />lane was discussed by the Planning and Coordination Council (PACC). The improvements to <br />Ivy Road from Emmet Street to the 250 Bypass are estimated to cost $750,000, with a 20% <br />matching requirement ($150,000) to be shared by the City, County and University. Mr. Huja <br />explained that the high cost of the project is due to acquisition of land and replacement of <br />sidewalks. <br /> <br />The public hearing was opened. <br /> <br /> Mr. James Long, 1612-C Monticello Avenue, asked ifa bike lane is really necessary <br />when the street can be used and said that he felt the money could be used for another project. <br /> <br /> Mr. Caleb Kratz, Sherwood Road, expressed an interest in seeing the plans for the bike <br />lane. <br /> <br /> Mr. Huja noted that the Ivy Road area has one of the highest levels of bike users in the <br />city. <br /> <br />no further speakers, the public hearing was closed. <br /> <br /> <br />
