APPROPRIATION: $15,000 - "Learn & Serve" Grant (2nd reading) <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, Virginia, that the <br />sum of $15,000.00, received as a grant from the Charlottesville Public Schools, is hereby <br />appropriated to account code 13-162-062135 for the purpose of funding the Teens GIVE <br />community service program for Charlottesville High School students aged 13-15 years. <br /> <br />c. APPROPRIATION: $27,640 - General Relief Program (carried over) <br /> <br />APPROPRIATION: $25,000 - VENABLE PLAYGROUND ($12,500 PRIVATE <br />SECTOR/S12,500 CITY SHAR~) (2nd reading) <br /> <br /> Mr. Don Warren, 1310 Blue Ridge Road and parent of a X/enable School student, <br />stated that the Venable School PTO and families got together to help raise funds for the <br />playground which will be used for the school and for neighborhood use when school is not in <br />session. Mr. Warren recogv~ed Mr. Ron Broadbent, Venable School principal, for his <br />efforts. <br /> <br /> Mr. Steve Campbell, 1821 Edgewood Lane, recognized Venable students, faculty, <br />families, the Venable Neighborhood Association, and the Charlottesville Rotary Club for their <br />fund-raising efforts. <br /> <br /> Ms. Deatris Jackson, a fourth grade student at Venable, thanked the City for providing <br />funding for the playground, which Ms. Jackson said would be geared more toward third and <br />fourth grade activities. <br /> <br /> The $25,000 appropriation for the Venable School Playground, which was offered at <br />the January 17th meeting, was approved by the following vote. Ayes: Ms. Daugherty, Rev. <br />Edwards, Ms. Slaughter, Mr. Toscano, Mr. Vandever. Noes: None. <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, Virgnia that the sum <br />of $12,500 is hereby appropriated from the Parks & Recreation Contingency Fund into <br />account code 07-171-073708 to fund the cost of upgrading the playground equipment at <br />Venable Elementary School. This appropriation is conditioned upon receipt of $12,500 in <br />private donations to match the City's contribution, for a total appropriation of $25,000. <br /> <br />REPORT: SUSTAINABILITY COUNCIL - THOMAS JEFFERSON PLANNING <br />DISTRICT COMMIS SION <br /> <br /> Ms. Emily Couric, 414 Rugby Road and a member of the Thomas Jefferson <br />Sustainability Council which was formed in January of 1994, described the Council's purpose <br />as linking economy, environment, and human health for the Counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, <br />Greene, Louisa, and Nelson and the City of Charlottesville. The Council's mission is "to <br />provide information to citizens throughout the region to meet the needs of the present <br />without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." Ms. Couric <br />stated that a regional forum will be held on Saturday, February 1 lth, and additional town <br />meetings will be held throughout the region. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: SPECIAL PERMIT FOR DRIVE-IN WlNDOW AT 2125 IVY ROAD <br />(TACO BELL) <br /> <br /> The resolution regarding a special permit for a drive-in window- for Taco Bell was <br />deferred. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: AUTHORIZING MAYOR TO SIGN VISITORS CENTER <br />AGREEMENT <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix explained that the Visitors Center agreement is essentially a cOntinuation <br />of the existing agreement and will continue funding by the participants for three years. <br /> <br /> <br />
