THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: Luncheon meeting with School Board BY ORDER OF THE ~;~YOR BY Jeanne Cox (signed) BUFORD SCHOOL MEDIA CENTER - May 12, 1993 Council met in special session on this date with the following members present: Ms. Daugherty, Rev. Edwards, Mr. Toscano, Mr. Vandevero Absent: Ms. Slaughter. Mr. Vandever explained that the City Council and staff are beginning the process of rethinking and restructuring government as well as finding $1 million in savings as a result of decreased revenues. Mr. Vandever stated that the process will likely include appointment of a "Blue Ribbon Committee.,, Mr. Vandever asked the School Board to recognize what is happening with the City and stated that he hoped the Schools could go through a similar process. Dr. Robert Bloodgood, member of the School Board, questioned whether there w~s a role for the School Board in the City's restructuring process, perhaps having a School Board member serve on the Blue Ribbon Committee and Mr. Vandever replied that he felt that would be appropriate. The meeting was adjourned. Pres O~ COUNCIL CHAMBER - May 17, 1993 Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: Ms. Daugherty, Ms. Slaughter, Mr. Toscano, Mr. Vandever. Absent: Rev. Edwards. PUBLIC Ms. Sky Hiatt, 710-B Ridge Street, expressed concern about the cedar trees scheduled to be removed as a result of the east end mall extension. Ms. Hiatt urged Council to redo the planning process for such projects in the future and to keep people and natural elements in mind. Ms. Slaughter stated that Ms. Hiatt's suggestion is well taken and she agreed that the public needed to be involved in such projects at an earlier stage. Ms. Slaughter noted that some trees will be saved, but others must be removed due to the nature of the project. Mr. Mitchell Neuman, Vice President of Lucky Seven Stores, presented a petition signed by the majority of retail stores who distribute the City's trash stickers requesting that the Council approve a 5% discount for retailers as an incentive. Mr. Vandever stated that it was never the City's intention to create a hardship for vendors and requested that the staff look into Mr. Neuman's request.
