63 <br /> <br />(2nd reading) <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library accrued <br />a budget surplus in fiscal year 1991-92, and the City's share <br />of such surplus is determined to be $9,795; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Library Board has requested that this <br />surplus be used for the purpose of funding the Summer Reading <br />in the Parks program; now, therefore <br /> <br /> BE IT. RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville, Virginia, that the sum of $9,795.00 is <br />hereby permitted to be carried over from fiscal year 1991-92 <br />as a continuing appropriation and expended in fiscal year <br />1993-94 by the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library for the <br />above-stated purpose. <br /> <br />he <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: Approving settlement with Southern <br />Railway for Back Tax Assessment <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville, Virginia: <br /> <br /> It appearing to be in the best interests of the City, <br />the settlement in the amount of $27,000 proposed by the <br />defendant in the case of City2of Charlottesville vs. Southern <br />Railway Co. is hereby approved and accepted. The City <br />Attorney or his designee is authorized to execute the <br />necessary documents to dismiss the case. <br /> <br />i. RESOLUTION: Proclaiming Public Works Week <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, public works services provided in our community <br />are an integral part of our citizens' everyday lives; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the support of an understanding and informed <br />citizenry is vital to the efficient operation of public works <br />systems and programs such as water, sewer, gas, streets, <br />public buildings, solid waste collection, and snow removal; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the health, safety, and comfort of this <br />community greatly depend on these facilities and services; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the quality and effectiveness of these <br />facilities, as well as their planning, design and <br />construction, are vitally dependent upon the efforts and <br />skill of public works officials; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the efficiency of the qualified and dedicated <br />personnel who staff public works departments is materially <br />influenced by the people's attitude and understanding of the <br />importance of the work they perform; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, I, Thomas J. Vandever, Mayor of the City <br />of Charlottesville, do hereby-declare and set aside the week <br />of May 16 through 22, 1993 as NATIONAL PUBLIC WORKS WEEK in <br />Charlottesville, and call upon all citizens and civic <br />organizations to acquaint themselves with the problems <br />involved in providing our public works and to recognize the <br />contributions that public works officials make everyday to <br />our health, safety, and comfort. <br /> <br />j.
