121 <br /> <br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL WILL BE HELD ON Wednesday, <br />September 8, 1993 AT 7:30 p.m. IN THE Basement Conference <br />Room. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Luncheon meeting with School Board <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR <br /> <br />BY ~Je~a~nne Co.~ (sig~n~ed) <br /> <br />BASEMENT CONFERENCE ROOM - September 8, 1993 <br /> <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the <br />following members present: Ms. Daugherty, Rev. Edwards <br />(arrived late), Mr. Toscano, Mr. Vandever. Absent: Ms. <br />Slaughter. <br /> <br /> Council was invited to attend and participate in a <br />portion of the School Board's annual retreat on October 16th <br />and the School Board was asked to identify issues for <br />consideration by Council at their retreat on October 10 and <br />11. <br /> <br /> Mr. Jim Dunbar, Assistant Superintendent of Schools, <br />stated that things were going well at the newly renovated <br />Johnson School, though minor things needed repair or <br />finishing. <br /> <br /> Dr. Joseph McGeehan, Superintendent of Schools, stated <br />that as of this date 4,339 students are enrolled in City <br />schools, 31 less than projected. Dr. McGeehan reviewed the <br />class sizes for kindergarten through 4th grades. <br /> <br /> Ms. Daugherty stated that she would be interested in <br />learning more about the Chapter I~ the program "Wings," and <br />the volunteer reading program, and how they are interrelated <br />and Dr. McGeehan invited Ms. Daugherty to attend the School <br />Board meeting on September 16th at which time a presentation <br />on these programs would be made. <br /> <br /> ~ ~~eting <br />p re s l~den~ ~ <br /> <br />was <br /> <br />adjourned. <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER - September 20, 1993 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the <br />following members present: Ms. Daugherty, Rev. Edwards, Ms. <br />Slaughter, Mr. Toscano, Mr. Vandever. <br /> <br />'PUBLIC <br /> <br /> Colonnel Carroll Smith notified Council that a formal <br />request will be forthcoming asking that permission be granted <br />to instal!-.a small memorial'to the 29th Infantry Division, in <br />the name of Frank Peregory, at the intersection of Route 29 <br />and old Route 250. <br /> <br /> Mr. William Johnson asked City Council to form a <br />committee to formally investigate the School Board regarding <br />its recent actions against Rheva Williams. <br /> <br /> Ms.. Anne McFadden, speaking on behalf of the Senior <br />Lunch Program at Carver Recreation Center, stated that <br />contrary to news reports the participants in the program are <br />content with the newly renovated Center. <br /> <br /> <br />
