214 <br /> <br /> Ms. Carolyn Berry, 118 Park Road, asked Council to think <br />about the impact of a JAUNT fare increase on City residents. <br /> <br /> Mr. Steve Stern, 1204 Holmes Avenue, a member of the <br />JAUNT Board, stated that he hoped Council will increase <br />funding for all agencies as well as JAUNT and added that he <br />would support a tax increase if it helped people. <br /> <br /> Mr. Herman Key, 420 7 1/2 Street, S.W., stated that he was <br />disappointed that the JAUNT funding proposal showed an <br />apparent lack of concern and did not think the proposal met <br />the City's legal or moral obligation to provide transportation <br />services for the disabled. <br /> <br /> Ms. Betty Newell stated that she felt JAUNT was a <br />beneficial and cost effective program. <br /> <br /> Ms. Pat Smith, Director of Offender Aid and Restoration, <br />stated that OAR is serving 30% more people and asked for an <br />additional $3,000 in funding in order to cover the cost of <br />rent alone. <br /> <br /> Mr. Scott Weaver stated that the proposed JAUNT fare <br />increase would be hard on people with fixed incomes and stated <br />that he felt JAUNT was one of the best paratransit systems in <br />the state. <br /> <br /> Ms. Phyllis Weaver, 907 Rives Avenue, stated that she <br />uses JAUNT multiple times a day and cannot afford a rate <br />increase. <br /> <br /> Ms. Marilyn Washington, 1618 Trailridge Road, stated that <br />people cannot be expected to pay the proposed JAUNT fare <br />increase. <br /> <br /> Ms. Virginia Feltner, 15th Street, N.W., opposed the <br />proposed JAUNT fare increase and stated that she would not <br />want to ride the City buses because they will be too crowded <br />with wheelchairs. <br /> <br /> Mr. Ken Ackerman, Executive Director of the Monticello <br />Area Community Action Agency (MACAA), asked Council to <br />reconsider funding for the following MACAA programs: Project <br />Discovery; Camp Horizon; Summer Youth Employment Program; and <br />Parents in Education Program. Mr. Ackerman also requested <br />that Council fund the real estate taxes on the property <br />purchased by MACAA until the tax exemption becomes effective <br />on July 1st. <br /> <br /> Ms. Pamela Harriman opposed the proposed JAUNT fare <br />increase. <br /> <br /> Mr. Eric Harper, 11 Altamont Circle, Apt. 16, a member of <br />the JAUNT Board, requested 'that Council increase funding for <br />JAUNT so fares do not have to increase. <br /> <br /> Ms. Annette Lightner, 505 West Rio Road, opposed a fare <br />increase for JAUNT. <br /> <br /> Mr. Wayne Cursteder of Linden Avenue, opposed the fare <br />increase for JAUNT. <br /> <br /> Mr. Roger Lee Johnson, 500 South 1st Street, stated that <br />he has used JAUNT since he was disabled in an accident and <br />urged Council not to increase the fares. <br /> <br /> Ms. Rebecca Cursteder, 102 Linden Avenue, opposed the <br />JAUNT fare increase. <br /> <br /> Mr. Tom McCrystal, 822 Blenheim Avenue, sta~ed that <br />people depend on JAUNT for their freedom and also spoke in <br />support of additional funding for OAR. <br /> <br /> <br />
