Social Services Fund <br /> <br />(a) Continuing Appropriation <br /> <br /> The following expenditure accounts in the Social <br />Services Fund at June 30, 1991, shall be permitted to be <br />carried over and expended in the following fiscal year for <br />the purposes for which they were originally appropriated <br />based on estimated revenues to be received: <br /> <br />12-161-062296 <br />12-161-062279 <br /> <br />Denture Program <br />Independent Living Program (State) <br /> <br />X. Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) Fund <br /> <br />10,150 <br /> 3,820 <br /> <br />(a) Continuing Appropriation <br /> <br /> The sum of $226,653 in the Job Training Partnership <br />Act Fund shall be permitted to be carried over and expended <br />in the following fiscal year for the continuation of the <br />Summer Youth Program based on estimated revenues to be <br />received from the Commonwealth of Virginia. <br /> <br />APPROPRIATION: $15,000 - DUI CHECKPOINT GRANT <br /> <br /> Mro Hendrix explained that the appropriation was a grant <br />from the Division of Motor Vehicles which would provide <br />overtime for 24 checkpoint operations. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Toscano, seconded by Mr. Vandever, the <br />$15,000 appropriation of the DUI Checkpoint Grant was offered <br />and carried over to the next meeting for consideration. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: APPROVING SPECIAL ASSESSMENT DISTRICT FOR <br />IMPROVEMENTS AT U. VA. CORNER AREA (2nd reading) <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix explained that the proposed design process <br />for Corner improvements is on a tight schedule and requested <br />Council's feedback following the presentation. <br /> <br /> Mr. Ron Higgins, Planner in the Department of Community <br />Development, presented the design concept for the Corner, <br />noting that preliminary cost estimates for the work are 12% <br />to 14% less than anticipated. Mr. Higgins stated that a <br />combination of brick and pavers will be used. <br /> <br /> The resolution approving the special assessment district <br />for improvements at the U. Va. Corner Area which was offered <br />at the December 16th~meeting was approved by the following <br />vote. Ayes: Rev. Edwards, MSo Slaughter, Mr. Toscano, Mr. <br />Vandever, Ms. Waters. Noes: None. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council has, at a public hearing held on <br />December 2, 1991, considered and agreed to certain street, <br />sidewalk, and related improvements in the University of <br />Virginia-Corner area (the "Corner Area") generally in accord <br />with the preliminary design suggestions made by the landscape <br />architectural firm of EDAW, INC. (the "Architects"); and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Corner Area under consideration includes <br />those properties which front along the following streets: <br />Segment (1) - along the north side of University Avenue from <br />Chancellor Street to its intersection with Elliewood Avenue; <br />Segment (2) - along both sides of Elliewood Avenue from <br />University Avenue to the north boundary of Parcel 96, Tax Map <br />9; Segment (3) - on the north side of University Avenue from <br />Elliewood Avenue to its intersection with 14th Street; <br />Segment (4) - along both sides of 14th Street, NW from <br /> <br /> <br />
