Edwards, Ms. Slaughter, Mr. <br />Vandever. Absent- Mr. Toscano and Ms. Waters. <br /> <br /> Mr. Jim Dunbar, Assistant Superintendent of Schools, <br />explained that in December of 1984 the Council, after <br />discussions with the School Board and at the request of <br />Piedmont Council of the Arts and CHALFA, agreed to subsidize <br />.up to 25 hours of rehearsal time at the Performing Arts <br />Center for non-profit community groups since it was felt that <br />these groups could not afford to pay the $45 per hour fee. <br />Mr. Dunbar explained that the hourly rate has increased to <br />$65 per hour, but the City continues to be billed for the <br />subsidized rehearsal time at the $45 per hour rate. <br /> <br /> Ms. Slaughter stated that it now appears that the <br />subsidy is being provided to non-profit organizations who use <br />the Performing Arts Center for funding raising activities <br />rather than as a support for the arts. <br /> <br /> <br />
