Edwards. <br /> <br />ORDINANCE:~ COURTHOUSE MAINTENANCE FEES <br /> <br /> Mr. Gouldman stated that Mr. Carlton Calk, Clerk of the <br />General District Court, has requested that a $2 fee be <br />imposed on civil, criminal and traffic cases, as allowed by <br />State law, to be kept for courthouse maintenance, renovation <br />and heating. Mr. Gouldman recommended that the ordinance <br />have an effective date of November 1st, if approved. <br /> <br /> Responding to a question from Ms. Daugherty, Mr. Calk <br />stated that the filing fee for civil cases is currently <br />$14.00 and the fee for criminal and traffic cases is $24.00. <br /> <br /> Mr. Toscano questioned whether the additional fee would <br />bring the City's courts in line with other jurisdictions and <br />Mr. Calk indicated that all courts he had contacted in the <br />16th district have similar fees to the one proposed. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Toscano, seconded by Ms. Daugherty, the <br />ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE ADDING A NEW ARTICLE TO <br />CHAPTER 30 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, 1990, <br />AS AMENDED, TO BE TITLED "ARTICLE XVI - COURTHOUSE. <br />MAINTENANCE FEE," to become effective November 1,1992, was <br />offered and~carried over to the next meeting for <br />consideratiOn. <br /> <br />ORDINANCE: AMENDINGVOLUNTEER FIRE/RESCUE PERSONNEL TAX EXEMPTION <br /> <br /> Mr. Gouldman explained that the ordinance was a~ <br />housekeeping amendment which would make the tax exemption for <br />volunteer fire and rescue personnel effective January 1, 1993 <br />to conform to the current administrative schedule, but noted <br />that all personnel who were eligible when the ordinance was <br />adopted would be grandfathered and no one would be adversely <br />affected. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Toscano, seconded by Ms. Slaughter, the <br />ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND AND REORDAIN <br />SECTION 30-39 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, <br />1990, AS AMENDED, RELATED TO TAX EXEMPTIONS FOR VOLUNTEER <br />FIRE RESCUE PERSONNEL" was offered and carried over to the <br />next meeting for consider~ation. <br /> <br />ORDINANCE: ~AUTHORIZING QUITCLAIM FOR GAS LINE EASEMENT IN <br />BRANCHLANDS <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix explained that the Virginia Department of <br />Transportation will be taking over maintenance of the streets <br />where the City has easements. Mr. Hendrix noted that while <br />unlikely, the City would be responsible for relocating the <br />utilities in the future should the street be widened. <br /> <br /> On motion by Ms. Daugherty, seconded by Mr. Toscano, the <br />ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE TO QUITCLAIM NATURAL GAS <br />LINES LOCATED IN BRANCHLANDS BOULEVARD AND HILLSDALE DRIVE TO <br />THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION" was offered and <br />carried over to the next meeting for consideration. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br /> There were no matters by the public. <br />OTHER BUSINESS <br /> <br /> Ms. Slaughter stated that the Brown family will be <br />holding a family reunion in Charlottesville and made a motion <br />to approve a proclamation welcoming the family to the <br />community.
