238 <br /> <br /> Ms. Slaughter stated that she only felt it was necessary <br />for the Council to hold the public hearing scheduled on the <br />amendment to the option agreement for the sale of land on <br />Shamrock Road, but noted that Planning Commissioners were <br />always welcome to attend. <br /> <br />OTHER BUSINESS <br /> <br /> Ms. Slaughter stated that she hoped Council would <br />respond favorably to requests made by the Parks Advisory <br />Committee regarding their mission and to include a School <br />Board representative on the Committee. <br /> <br /> Mr. Toscano recommended that the Council acknowledge the <br />University of Virginia Soccer Team for winning the National <br />Championship. <br /> <br /> Mr. Vandever announced that December 8th was National <br />Fuel Fund Day and requested that donations be made which will <br />be matched by the City to help assist people in heating their <br />homes. <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that the Gas Advisory Committee was <br />ready to begin meeting as soon as a Councilor is appointed. <br /> <br /> Mr. Vandever stated that he will be the Council <br />representative on the Committee. <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that the Staunton City Council and <br />their Industrial Development Authority would like to meet <br />with City Council and the Charlottesville Industrial <br />Development Authority. Council agreed to meet with the group <br />on January 5th. <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that he has been working with the <br />University of Virginia to increase lighting in the University <br />area. Mr. Hendrix recommended that the lumins be increased <br />in the existing lights in the Virginia Avenue/Chancellor <br />Street area which will cost $3,500, and ~500 a year for <br />operating costs. Mr. Hendrix stated that if funds are not <br />available in the capital fund an appropriation may be <br />necessary. <br /> <br /> It was the consensus of~Council to increase the lumins <br />as recommended by Mr. Hendrix. <br /> <br /> On motion by Ms. Daugherty, seconded by Ms. Slaughter, <br />Council unanimously voted to meet in executive session to <br />discuss the acquisition, use or disposition of public <br />property in the ~central business district as allowed by <br />Section 2.1-344(a)(3) of the Virginia Freedom of Information <br />Act. <br /> <br /> Council reconvened in open session and, on motion by Ms. <br />Slaughter, seconded by Ms. Daugherty, unanimously certified <br />that, to the best of each member's knowledge, (i) only public <br />business mattes lawfully exempted from open meeting <br />requirements by Virginia law were discussed in the executive <br />meeting to which this certification resolution applies, and <br />(ii) only such public business matters as were identified in <br />the motion convening the executive meeting were heard, <br />discussed or considered by the Council. <br /> <br /> Ms. Slaughter stated that a proposal had been received <br />by the City for development of the City-owned surface parking <br />lot on High Street between 3rd and 4th Streets and made a <br />motion to advertise, through the Charlottesville Industrial <br />Development Authority, for additional proposals for the site. <br />Ms. Daugherty seconded the motion and it~was unanimously <br />approved by Council. <br /> <br />The meeting was adjOurned. <br /> <br />Presiden% <br /> <br /> <br />
