APPROPRIATION: <br /> (carried over) <br /> <br />$12,806.50 - $2 for Life Funds <br /> <br />fe <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: Authorizing Mayor to sign dedication <br />of well lot at nature park <br /> <br />ORDINANCE: "AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND REORDAINING <br />SECTION 19-92 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />CHARLOTTESVILLE, 1990, AS AMENDED, RELATED TO <br />SUPPLEMENTAL RETIREMENT OR PENSION PLAN" <br />(2nd reading) <br /> <br />ORDINANCE: AUTHORIZING PARTICIPATION BY FIRE EXPLORERS IN <br />VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANY ACTIVITIES <br /> <br /> Ms. Slaughter expressed concern with sixteen and seven- <br />teen year olds being allowed to go into burning buildings. <br /> <br /> Mr. Ben Powell of the Fire Department, explained that <br />the Explorers must pass-an examination and be certified prior <br />to participating in fire fighting activities and surrounding <br />counties allow this type of participation by Explorers. <br /> <br /> Rev. Edwards stated that he agreed with Ms. Slaughter's <br />concern,'but thought it should be allowed if the Explorer,s <br />parents approve. <br /> <br /> Mr. Clyde Gouldman, City Attorney, stated that the <br />ordinance could be approved in one reading. <br /> <br /> On motion by Rev. Edwards, seconded by Mr. Toscano, the <br />ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE ALLOWING PERSONS 16 YEARS <br />AND OLDER TO PARTICIPATE IN FIREFIGHTING ACTIVITIES" was <br />approved by the following vote. Ayes: Ms. Daugherty, Rev. <br />Edwards, Mr. Toscano, Mr. Vandever. Noes: Ms. Slaughter. <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARING: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: <br /> <br />SPECIAL PERMIT TO EXPAND FOODS OF ALL NATIONS <br /> <br />The public hearing was opened. <br /> <br /> Mr. Ron Keeney, architect for Foods of Ail Nations, <br />explained that the expansion would allow the cold storage <br />boxes and sheds to be replaced with a two story addition <br />which would house storage on the lower level and a relocated <br />kitchen on the second floor. Mrs. Keeney stated that the <br />parking lot was proposed to be unified with the adjacent <br />parking lot. <br /> <br /> As there were no further speakers the public hearing was <br />closed. <br /> <br /> Mr. Satyendra Huja, Director of Community Development, <br />stated that the Planning Commission recommended approval of <br />the special permit for the following reasons: 1) It is in <br />harmony with the Land Use Plan of the Comprehensive Plan; and <br />2) It will not have a significant adverse impact on the <br />surrounding area if built according to the site plan and if <br />conditions are met. <br /> <br /> Mr. Toscano questioned what the rationale for denying <br />parking in the front of the lot had been and Mr. Huja replied <br />that a special permit is considered a privilege, removing the <br /> <br /> <br />
